Dine inside an eco-friendly winter tipi in Parsons Green this winter

We’re mid-way through November, which means it’s time to start getting excited about all things Christmas. London is a magical place to be during the winter, with festive pop-ups arriving all over the city – from ice rinks to markets and seasonal workshops. The latest? Tipis on the Green: a pop-up Alpine-inspired bar and restaurant in Parsons Green with green credentials.

Tipis on the Green: A New Eco Christmas Pop-Up Is Coming To London

Arriving in south-west London this November, the pop-up will draw inspiration from cosy ski chalets: think twinkling fairy lights, retro ski paraphernalia and fire pits. It’s a project from Raw Tipis, an events company with an environmental focus, and its thoughtful ethos will be seen throughout Tipis on the Green. Electric generators will be used across the venue, compost toilets will help reduce water consumption, and many of the decorations will be pre-loved items that have been upcycled. All food waste, meanwhile, will be turned into compost.

That brings us onto: what’s on the menu? It’s all about hearty, warming dishes: tartiflette, wild mushroom arancini, and French Diot sausages cooked in white wine, plus mini mac ‘n’ cheese for little guests, paired with seasonal negronis and Baileys hot chocolate. Many ingredients will come from eco food and drink brands, including some B Corps. Diners can sip beers from Prime Time lager, a brewery which uses the ‘world’s first beer source heat pump’ – this means heat is sourced from fermenting beer and re-routed to heat water for the boiler to start the brewing process. There will also be drinks from family-run tequila producer Pimantae, which donates funds to an organisation working with communities in Mexico.

There will be a strong community focus too. The pop-up is raising funds for local charity Hammersmith & Fulham Giving, and each morning local businesses and non-profits will deliver free events designed to inspire a more conscious Christmas. A programme of workshops will also run throughout the season, including climate meetups, repair workshops, clothes swaps and art classes. Watch out too, for events such as a festive wreath making class and a bottomless margarita brunch – with more due to be announced in the coming weeks.
