Back in 2022, we thought we’d said goodbye to the Strawbridge family and their beloved French chateau. With nine seasons under its belt, the show became one of the beloved DIY series on Channel 4, spawning its own interiors line and multiple spin-offs (more on that below). But four years later, in a surprise turn of events, it seemed that Dick, Angel, Arthur and Dorothy Strawbridge still had room in their guest wing for UK audiences. The show returned for its tenth season earlier this summer, and with plans underway for a Christmas special later in 2026, it seems the family are truly back in business. Escape to the Chateau: How To Watch, Christmas Specials & More
Since hitting our screens in 2016, Escape to the Chateau has brought a newfound fascination with the extravagant fixer-upper to UK audiences. Dick and Angel Strawbridge bought their chateau, then a rundown building in northwest France, with the dream of transforming it into a family home and spectacular events venue. Over the years, that dream became a reality – and we got to see just how they did it.

But in 2022, the show announced a sudden end. Rounding off with nine series, Dick and Angel said they would be stepping back to give their family some time to settle down away from camera crews. Speaking recently to C&TH about the decision, Angel Strawbridge explained how: ‘In 2022, we had our big closing party because the kids were coming of an age where they were changing so much. Dorothy had had a camera around her since she was zero, and part of the beauty of the show was that the kids didn’t even really know – there was a real innocence to it. We felt it was really important for the family to have time out and just be busy doing what we moved here for.’
It wasn’t until a few years later when the family felt a spark to continue filming. ‘A big change started to happen, which led us to think: we should capture this,’ says Angel. The result was a surprise series 10, which was televised on Channel 4 over the summer.
And the premise? Navigating the chateau with growing children. ‘Dorothy decided she wanted her own room, because Arthur and Dorothy had shared a room their whole lives, as it worked logistically in the house. So she moved into our room, Arthur got his own room, and we moved into the honeymoon suite. The new series is beautiful because the kids are a lot taller, a lot more grown up, and the whole season is about change.’ You can read more about Dick and Angel’s time working on series 10 here.

The Christmas Special
It’s become something of a tradition for Escape to the Chateau to cap off a season with a Christmas special. The show has made six over the years, with the last one supposedly acting as a final hurrah for the series – but with series 10 now streaming, Dick and Angel have set their sights on this year’s festivities.
‘What we do have is a Christmas Special attached to [series 10],’ Angel recently told C&TH. ‘We finished filming around Christmas and it felt rude not to do one.
‘It’s filmed by the same team and with the same post-production house as Escape to the Chateau. Tracy-Ann Oberman is back as narrator. It’s renovation, it’s crafting, as per, but I think the biggest difference, which we’re excited for people to see, is that the children are more involved and more useful than ever. They’re doing big projects now, as opposed to playing alongside them.’

Will There Be An Escape to the Chateau Series 11?
Yes, another instalment is on the way. Though details have yet to be confirmed by Channel 4, our most recent chat with Dick and Angel Strawbridge revealed that the two plan to extend the events of series 10 into series 11 – making it a continuation of projects as well as new ones.
‘Every year, we decide what to do next, and for the last five or six years we’ve included the children in that conversation,’ Dick told C&TH. ‘Series 10 existed because there was such big change within the family – Arthur is a young man now, Dorothy’s a young woman. But those changes haven’t quite finished, so we made the decision that Series 11 would follow from 10, because there are more things we’ve started in 10 that still need to be completed. Next year we’ll make the decision about what follows. What we always make sure of is that we protect the family time. We’ve really got a certain number of years to enjoy the children in the way we do now, and that’s our number one priority.’

Where To Watch Escape to the Chateau
Escape to the Chateau is currently unavailable to stream on Channel 4, following the show’s first finale in 2022. But with more episodes on the way, it’s expected that we’ll soon be able to stream them again sometime in the future (likely when the Christmas special drops).
