It’s party time

From dopamine dining to the indoorphins trend, it’s officially the season for colourful, feel-good interiors – and nothing says fun quite like a piñata-inspired look.

Inside The ‘Piñata Palette’ Trend

Feel like throwing a party? You don’t need an excuse; you can simply tap into the piñata palette trend instead. Drawing inspiration from the spirit of Mexico (and a growing preference for maximalist interiors), this colourful aesthetic is the perfect source of summer inspiration.

According to Lena Gierasinska, head of product and displays at Barker and Stonehouse, the trend is rooted in ‘bold, joyous hues’ and ‘vibrant spirit’. The palette itself is bursting with sunny tones and striking prints – and it also signals a broader shift towards what Andrew Seed, managing director at The Odd Company, calls ‘loud luxury’.

‘This look blends high-end materials with vibrant colours and daring details, making luxury feel energetic,’ he explains. ‘People are hungry for richness and soul in their spaces – think sensory delight! From the patterned wallpapers of the Four Seasons Hotel featured in The White Lotus to the growing influence of boutique hotel aesthetics, homeowners are chasing interiors that feel indulgent and full of life.’

How To Perfect The Piñata Look

If you fancy leaning into the trend, it all starts with the colours.

‘Let rich, golden yellows and zesty oranges evoke warmth and energy, creating a sense of celebration and happiness in every corner,’ says Lena. ‘Pair these lively colours with deep, serene blues to add balance and tranquillity.’

‘An unexpected combination of sunshine yellow paired with sky blue offers a mood-enhancing effect that sets the perfect ambience for summer hosting,’ adds Shelley Cochrane, accessories buyer at Furniture Village. Try it out in your hallway using tapestries, ceramics, and even wallpaper.

Another essential element, however? Plenty of patterns; think curated clashing with a few surprises thrown in.

‘Incorporating patterns is a brilliant way to update your space and add a dose of dopamine this summer,’ says Shelley. ‘Clashing patterns don’t have to be traditional or chintzy – take a contemporary approach using abstract shapes and hand-drawn stripes.’
