Curriculum

The main focus at Ludgrove is to build firm academic foundations and encourage a love of learning. Staff aim to realise the highest academic expectations for all the boys with first class teaching and small classes.

Sport & The Arts

The school offers a vibrant extracurricular programme with exposure to music, drama, the creative arts in a 350-seat theatre, and many sports, making the most of the 130-acre site with playing fields, cricket nets, tennis, fives and squash courts, AstroTurf and a 20m indoor swimming pool. The school has one of the finest facilities for science, coding, art, CDT and ceramics in a prep school anywhere in the country.

Pastoral Care

The outstanding body of staff get to know the boys incredibly well, with Sophie Barber, the headmaster’s wife, overseeing the pastoral care. Alongside Mrs Barber, the resident matrons, school nurse, on-site boarding houseparents and all other staff are committed to ensuring a child’s confidence is nurtured at every opportunity. Two of the matrons have trained as ELSAs to help the boys understand their emotions, cope with life’s challenges and feel happy and secure.

Exit Destinations

Recent scholarships awarded to leavers include two King’s Scholarships to Eton; music and academic scholarships to Brighton College; a Clay Prize in Greek and Latin to Harrow School; a Sewell Scholarship to Radley College; a music exhibition to Radley College; and a sports award to Marlborough College.

Head’s Philosophy

To develop the boys’ confidence, character and creativity in a caring and supportive environment. As the country’s only all-boys full, fortnightly boarding prep school, Ludgrove is a rare find where boys are able to hold onto their childhood for longer. Each boy is valued as an individual, enabling them to flourish and make friends for life along the way. We are unashamedly ambitious at Ludgrove, and are proud of our strong academic and scholarship record.
