Tips for The International Day
- Getting There: Means of travel by road, rail, bus and air are available online. There’s no ringside parking.
- Highlighting the importance of women’s polo across the globe, don’t miss the Ladies International with England ladies on the schedule at 17:15pm.
- Brand new for 2018, grab your tickets for Charlotte Dujardin CBE’s Dressage Masterclass, starting at 10am.
- Head to the Retail and Food Village to fill your stomach (and your handbag) from 10am.
- All children are allowed at the event and the polo grounds are flat with no surrounding banks or racked areas or grandstands. Guests will be able to view the action from the same level as the match play.
Gates open at 9am for Dressage ticket holders only and Polo ticket holders are welcome to enter the grounds from 10am. The Dressage Master Class will take place in the arena from 10am until around 2pm; during the display there will be short breaks. Three o’clock will see the Polo commence with two matches beginning at roughly 3:30pm (Flannels England v USA for The Westchester Cup) and 5:15pm (The Thai Polo Club Ladies International), expected to finish around 7pm when music in the village commences.
Where to Stay
The Winning Post, Winkfield, Berkshire: From the outside, The Winning Post looks like a modest cottage, but inside it’s surprisingly spacious and immediately welcoming. Warmed by an open fire and a wood-burning stove, with exposed brick walls, timber beams and wooden furniture, it has plenty of cosy charm. Like The Station House and The Peat Spade Inn, it belongs to The Upham Group’s stable of pubs and inns, all with character and first-rate service. The Winning Post is in prime polo and horse-racing country (hence its eye-catching collection of racing photographs) and has swiftly become a favourite watering hole for people from these worlds. Chief among its attractions is the excellent food, which focuses on honest flavours and clean presentation in distinctive seasonal British dishes. Once you have dined, with ten bedrooms in a modern annex and an excellent breakfast to wake up to, there’s no reason not to stay the night. Doubles from £79.
