Things are getting festive over at the royal residences
We’re still a few months out, but Christmas is coming – and it’s making its first stop at Buckingham Palace. Word has it that the royal residence is in the middle of preparing its stables for a festive makeover, set to open to the public this November. Here’s everything you need to know about the pop-up heading to Buckingham Palace this Christmas.
What Do The Royals Do For Christmas?
Buckingham Palace Christmas Pop-Up 2025: Dates, Location & Gift Guide
London is a special place at Christmas. But when you’re not trawling through the shops, admiring the festive lights at Bond Street or getting your skates on at one of the city’s top rinks, make sure you pay a visit to one of the capital’s grandest venues: the home of the royal family, Buckingham Palace.
And this Christmas marks a big first for the historical building. Buckingham Palace has announced plans to transform its 200-year-old stables into a pop-up shop for the festive season, with the Royal Mews serving as a Christmas boutique throughout November and December.
The pop-up comes just as the Royal Mews celebrates its 200th anniversary. Usually closed to the public during winter, this is the first time the stables has been repurposed for the season.
At the Royal Mews Christmas Shop, visitors will be able to browse the Royal Collection Trust’s festive ranges of official royal gifts, homeware, food and drink, as well as some of its trusted year-round heroes – with gifts for children, grown ups, friends and family alike.
There will also be plenty of new goodies on offer at the pop-up, including mini gin bottles infused with botanicals hand-picked from the grounds of royal residences (including Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle) and the latest range of British-made chinaware. Collectors especially will be keen to get their hands on the Property of the Royal Kitchen line, which takes its inspiration from the Great Kitchen at Windsor Castle – thought to be the oldest working kitchen in the UK.
For the partiers and hosts, meanwhile, the Royal Collection Trust has launched a new range of wine accessories – think bottle openers, stoppers and even crystal wine glasses. Etched with patterns of knotted vines and grape leaves – a design inspired by Queen Victoria’s famous punch bowl – the glasses make for the perfect dinner party addition or special gift. (Although with how beautiful they are, you might find it difficult to part with them.)
And, for an extra festive touch, the Royal Collection Trust will also be showcasing its range of stunning tree decorations. Handcrafted in India using traditional embroidery techniques, the decorations depict animals, crown jewels, palace guards and more festive designs depicting decorated trees, crystalline snowflakes and Christmas puddings.
Profits from purchases at the Royal Mews Christmas Shop will contribute to the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, as well as support the Royal Collection Trust in its work making the collection accessible to all.
