The singer announced her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce last night

Hot off the news that her twelfth studio album, The Life Of A Showgirl, comes out this October, Taylor Swift has shocked (and delighted) fans once more – this time by announcing that she and boyfriend Travis Kelce are engaged. The couple, who shared the news on Instagram last night, also gave us a closer look at the singer’s brand new ring (and its massive gemstone). Here’s everything you need to know about Taylor Swift’s engagement ring.

Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Are Engaged

The scene looked like something out of a romance novel (or maybe a Taylor Swift single, if you’re more so inclined): Travis Kelce chose a garden of blooming flowers for his proposal backdrop, getting down on one knee for the smiling singer. The garden, located in Kelce’s 17,000-square-foot mansion in Leawood, Kansas, would also become the setting for their subsequent engagement photoshoot.

‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,’ the couple captioned a shared Instagram post, set to the singer’s track ‘So High School’ from 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department.

Swift and Kelce, who went public with their relationship in October 2023, met after Kelce attended the pop star’s Kansas City show in July 2023, towards the beginning of her record-breaking Eras Tour. He arrived hoping to exchange friendship bracelets with Swift – a time-honoured tradition among her fans (aka Swifties) – with his mobile number on the beads. But his plan was derailed when he discovered Swift does not stop to speak to fans (however famous) before or after her shows in order to preserve her voice. The American football star revealed all of this on the New Heights podcast which he shares with brother Jason Kelce.

‘I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,’ he said. ‘So I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,’ adding: ‘She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal.’ But being earnest turned out to be Kelce’s most effective route to Swift’s heart: she was evidently endeared by the shout out because the duo reportedly started dating soon after. And in the years since, they’ve become one of the celebrity world’s biggest power couples.

A Closer Look At Taylor Swift’s Engagement Ring

And a grand proposal can only be matched by an equally as grand ring. ‘Taylor Swift’s engagement ring is set with a huge elongated cushion-cut 10ct diamond, nestled in a very fine rim of gold with what appears to be a delicate talon claw setting anchoring the corners,’ notes jewellery designer Laura Vann. ‘The band is feminine yet substantial – it flares slightly as it approaches the centre stone, creating a graceful transition that draws the eye to the diamond.

‘There also seems to be some vintage-style diamond detailing along the shoulders of the band, adding just the right touch of old-world charm,’ she continues. ‘The overall design perfectly captures Taylor’s signature aesthetic: timeless, romantic, and ethereal, with a whisper of vintage glamour.’

The ring definitely has an antique feel. ‘This is thanks in part to the hybrid setting, comprising delicate talon claws on the rounded corners of the elongated cushion cut diamond,’ says Eliza Walter, founder of jewellery label Lylie, ‘combined with a solid gold basket securely holding the diamond in place, which is slightly visible from above because of the thin gold framing of metal showing encircling the diamond. What a showstopper.’

Who Designed The Ring?

It’s believed that New York-based jewellery designer Kindred Lubeck is behind the pop star’s engagement ring. Lubeck, who specialises in jewellery engravings, is the daughter of master goldsmith Jay Lubeck – she joined her father’s business back in October 2019, and in the years since has honed her craft in both silver and gold.

Lubeck set out on her own venture in June 2024, making the move from Florida to New York to establish Artifex Fine Jewellery. And it was this boutique jewellery studio that allegedly caught Travis Kelce’s eye.

Since Lubeck is famed for her engraving work, it’s possible there could be a personal message hidden within the ring itself. ‘Crafted entirely in yellow gold, Taylor’s engagement ring band tapers as it moves around her finger with some detailing on the shoulders (which is not possible to make out from the picture), perhaps incorporating some meaningful memories for her and Travis,’ muses Eliza.

‘What makes it truly special are the symbolic details engraved into the side of the band,’ adds Cece Fein Hughes, founder of Cece Jewellery. ‘This ring feels like a secret love letter that only those two will know the meaning of.’

How Much Was It?

Since the ring reveal, there’s been plenty of discourse on the price of Taylor Swift’s engagement jewellery – with experts estimating anywhere between £3,000 and £4 million. (A very broad range, we know.)

‘This ring is certainly not off the shelf,’ notes James Harris, Regional Sales Manager at Austen & Blake. ‘The diamond looks to be rare white in its colour and eye clean in its clarity. A stone of this magnitude could well go into the millions in terms of cost. We estimate the piece to be worth upwards of £750,000 to £1.5 million, although it could, of course, be less if the couple opted for a more minimal carat.’

Maddy Sangster, founder of Heavenly London, agrees with the higher price point, estimating Taylor Swift’s engagement ring ‘around the £500,000 mark.’

The price could also differ based on whether the couple chose to go down the antique or lab-grown diamond route. ‘While the diamond could well be a rare natural stone, it’s also possible – and in line with the rising trend for conscious luxury – that the couple opted for a lab-grown diamond,’ suggests Jeremy Kanzen, Co-Founder and CEO of The Diamond Store. ‘With identical beauty to mined diamonds but a lower environmental impact, lab-grown stones are an increasingly popular choice among modern couples who value both sustainability and style.

‘A ring of this scale and quality could be valued between £2 million and £4 million,’ he continues, ‘with lab-grown versions commanding a substantially lower price while still offering exceptional brilliance and beauty.’

‘Examining Taylor’s diamond, it is likely an antique elongated cushion cut as it appears to have longer facets and a visible cutlet point in the centre,’ adds Eliza. ‘It has an antique feel to its design.’

Kindred Lubeck is also known for ethically sourcing the gemstones used to create her jewellery – prices for rings on her website range from around £3,000 to £30,000 – which means it wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility for the stone to be either antique or lab-grown.

Could Taylor Swift Launch A New Engagement Ring Trend?

Could Taylor Swift bring in a new era for antique diamonds and vintage styles? Quite possibly. ‘Elongated cushion cuts are already having a massive moment, with them being our most requested diamond shape of 2025,’ says Eliza. ‘With Travis and Taylor choosing an antique or antique-style diamond, I expect old-cut stones to come into sharper focus, sparking a wider trend in engagement ring design.’

What About The Watch?

Alongside her engagement ring, Taylor Swift was also spotted wearing a pretty gold watch from luxury jeweller Cartier. Fans of the singer will know this has been a staple watch in her wardrobe for a few years now, thanks to its all-occasion look. The yellow gold watch, believed to be a lesser-known and discontinued style known as the Cartier Santos Demoiselle (publications had previously mistaken it for the Cartier Panthère), features a rectangular precious-metal case with diamonds, a matching multi-link bracelet, a white dial with black Roman numeral indices, an inner railroad minute track, a blued steel handset and a cabochon crown – giving it a distinct look that matches Swift’s classic style.
