Kura, Uvita
BEST FOR: Couples
Probably the sexiest boutique hotel in Costa Rica, Kurà is an architecturally astounding property, with unrivalled views from the hills of the rainforest, overlooking Uvita’s iconic Whale’s Tail sandbar. These mesmerising 360 degree Pacific Ocean vistas can be enjoyed throughout the property, from the infinity pool, to each of the eight glass walled suites, with terraces that open-up high over the dense jungle. The gourmet restaurant specialises in fusion dishes such as a top notch Thai green curry, and locally caught tuna that’s seared to perfection. Breakfast includes delights such as crepe-like omelettes, filled with runny egg and wilted spinach, served with crispy potatoes.
Part of The Cayuga Collection, Kurà is owned and built by partners – architect Martin Wells and Alejandra, a biologist. Their idea was to create a beautiful modern hotel in an extreme tropical setting where Alejandra’s biology expertise would blend seamlessly with Martin’s architectural vision. Kurà means ‘jaguar’ in the tongue of the local indiginous tribal people, whose cultural symbol, devil masks, are peppered everywhere in common areas of this adults-only hotel, giving it an ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ mood.
Sleekly designed, open plan suites, feature a king-sized bed that dominates the room. Ambient red lighting is activated at turndown, begging for guests to connect to the bluetooth speakers and have a private party a deux, dancing on the underlit mirrored flooring. Try the red light twin rain head showers, and make use of the free condoms on offer in the bathroom. Adults only indeed, and you’ll probably want to share a room with someone you like very much.
