Jump into summer with these homegrown swim labels
Whether you’re braving the green list, heading to a British beach or simply splashing around in your local lido, packing a fabulous bikini or swimsuit is a must. Here are the best British swimwear brands to have on your radar before you dive in. And with many boasting stylish designs and impeccable sustainability credentials, why look anywhere else but homegrown?
The A-Z List: The Best British Swimwear Brands
Away That Day
London-based label Away That Day works was set up back in 2019 with the goal to create swimwear staples that bridged the gap between style and sustainability. Using regenerated fabrics and manufacturing designs in small batches, the brand’s signature styles build on sculptural detailing, bold colours and prints (we love a gingham moment) and little add-ons like bows and buckles that make each set feel well and truly considered.
Burberry
Most are familiar with Burberry’s legendary trench coats, check scarves and sleek umbrellas – but the brand has also carved a name for itself as one of the chicest swimwear destinations on British soil. Resortwear is comprised of classic silhouettes with a Burberry edge – the heritage check is a non-negotiable, although you’ll find it in more than just the signature brown and red colourway. (Pink check, anyone?) The brand has also been working on more collaborative drops in recent years – including a playful swimwear line created in collaboration with fellow swimwear label Hunza G.
Finisterre
If your summer plans are more wild swimming than pool dipping, then you’ll want to check out Finisterre. The label is known for its high-performance apparel, geared towards those who like to spend their time in the great outdoors. The brand’s recycled swimsuits and bikinis are made to last – and tested, as the brand puts it, by the British sea – designed for days on the coast swimming, surfing or just generally beachcombing. It’s not all practical magic, either; Finisterre’s swimwear is equally as stylish, with plenty of bold colours and fun prints to choose from.
Holland Cooper
For old school British glamour, it has to be Holland Cooper. While in the winter months you’ll find the brand decked out in tweed and wool, come June it’s all about the swimwear and summer soiree attire. Bikinis and swimsuits are classic in style – a little black bikini is summer’s answer to the LBD – with small details (a chain belt here, a logo brooch there) making each one feel unquestionably Holland Cooper.
Hunza G
The breakout star of Britain’s swimwear scene. The creative force behind the Original Crinkle – a textured, ultra-stretch fabric crafted with more than nine million stitches per garment, making it possible to create a one-size-fit garment that uplifts every body – the brand has been a staple in the British holiday wardrobe since its founding in 1984. In the summer months, Hunza G is understandably busy working on collaborations, pop-ups and new collections drops that quickly sell out.
Paper London
You’d be hard pressed to find a single boring bikini at Paper London. The luxury resortwear label, founded by Philippa Thackeray in 2011, is best known for its vibrant prints and bold silhouettes – making each suit and set wonderfully playful. It’s not all style over substance, either; the brand crafts its swimwear from ECONYL regenerated ocean plastics, and actively funds ocean cleanup programmes.
Prism LondonÂ
Originally launched in 2009 as a luxury sunglasses hotspot, Prism London has since expanded into one of Britain’s most sought-after resortwear labels. Swimwear, while designed in the UK, is handmade in small, family-run factories in Italy and Spain – using Greenpeace-certified eco-dye techniques that avoid harmful chemicals. But what really sets the brand apart is its ‘3-in-1’ approach: garments are uniquely designed to function interchangeably as sportswear, swimwear and shaping underwear, meaning you’ll get plenty of wear out of them after summer.
The White Company
B Corp lifestyle label The White Company might be best known for its coveted home fragrances and wellness products, but it’s fashion game is certainly nothing to scoff at. The label’s swimwear lines cover off colour-blocking, chic prints and power-mesh fabrics, with silhouettes designed to flatter all of your curves. As well as full swim sets, the label encourages you to mix and match bikini separates (most pieces are designed to work together outside of their immediate pairing) for a more versatile beach wardrobe.
