83 British spots have made this year's list
The culinary world is overflowing with awards systems and rankings, but La Liste is one of the most prestigious, highlighting the 1,000 best restaurants in the world. Unlike other guides, this one is collated objectively using millions of online reviews, publications and guidebooks, giving each venue a score. This week, the 2026 list was unveiled in Paris, and it was another strong showing for Britain, with 83 restaurants securing a spot.
La Liste 2026: Which British Restaurants Ranked Highest?
Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in the Lake District was the UK’s top ranking restaurant – and the second highest globally – with a score of 99.00, topped only by New York’s fine dining stalwart Le Bernardin. L’Enclume is no stranger to La Liste, having landed first place in 2025 with a joint top score of 99.5 alongside names like Guy Savoy in Paris, SingleThread in Napa Valley, and the aforementioned Le Bernardin.

Core by Clare Smyth
Opened in 2002, L’Enclume was a pioneer in the farm-to-fork movement, putting Cumbria and its bountiful produce on the map and heralding the start of a greener approach to fine dining. It has gone from strength to strength over the years, securing its first Michelin star in 2005, a second in 2013 and a third in 2022 – making it one of just a handful of restaurants with the accolade in the whole of the UK. It’s centred around a seasonal tasting menu, currently costing £265 and featuring dishes like English mushrooms with seaweed custard, sugar kelp and bone marrow, and west coast monkfish with aged pork and autumn brassicas.
Core by Clare Smyth in Notting Hill and The Ritz in Mayfair were also high up on the list, both landing a score of 98.00. The former is Smyth’s first solo venture, which has grown to become one of the country’s most revered dining rooms since opening in 2017, also sitting within the pool of three-starred spots. Smyth’s secret? An evangelical approach to ingredients – the team chat to the divers daily, for instance, to decipher the specifics of each scallop that’s served.
The Ritz hotel meanwhile, has been around for over a century, but it’s only more recently that its restaurant has begun being recognised for its culinary excellence, topping this year’s National Restaurant Awards. Executive chef John Williams, who has led The Ritz’s kitchen since 2004, was also recognised in La Liste 2026, taking home the Classic Excellent Award.
