The Princess of Wales’ year in style

Over the years, Kate Middleton has come to define the next generation of royal style. The Princess of Wales, through her carefully curated outfits – she’s a frontrunner in symbolic dressing – has stolen the show at many a royal event. From state banquet gowns and high fashion suits to antique jewels and homegrown labels, we round up some of our favourite Kate Middleton looks from 2025.

Kate Middleton’s 2025 Fashion Highlights

Commonwealth Day Service, March 2025

2025 was a year that saw the Princess of Wales return fully to royal duties, following her battle with cancer the year prior. One of the first major events of the year that saw her return to public life was the annual Commonwealth Day service, which celebrated the unity and diversity of the 56 member countries of the Commonwealth.

The Princess of Wales marked the occasion by wearing a vibrant red coatdress by royal favourite Catherine Walker, which featured an oversized bow at the neck, alongside a matching pillbox hat by Gina Foster, a red suede Miu Miu clutch and Gianvito Rossi heels. She also wore a variety of pearl accessories, including Princess Diana’s Collingwood earrings and a four-strand pearl necklace that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.

Wedding Anniversary In Scotland, April 2025

What better way to spend your wedding anniversary than visiting the place where you spent the early days of your romance? The Prince and Princess of Wales marked their 14th wedding anniversary back in April with a visit to the Isle of Mull in Scotland – where the pair had visited in their student days.

Braving the blustery Scottish weather in what has been dubbed her ‘informal events uniform’, Middleton wore a brown blazer – this time a tweed herringbone number from Holland Cooper – a blue linen button-up by Boden and a pair of chocolate-coloured skinny-fit trousers from Massimo Dutti. She also reverted back to her trusty See by Chloé brown suede ankle boots and Finlay & Co. sunglasses.

The QEII Award Presentation, May 2025

British tailoring has remained a central theme within the Princess of Wales’ wardrobe this year. The royal has attended several events wearing sharp suits by some of the UK’s leading designers and fashion houses – including an olive green number by Victoria Beckham, which she wore while presenting Patrick McDowell with the 2025 Queen Elizabeth II Award.

The suit – comprised of Victoria Beckham’s signature Patch-Pocket Jacket and Alina Trousers – was cut from a deep olive fabric and featured a single-breasted design with notched lapels, as well as deep front pockets on the blazer and trousers. She teamed it up with a ruffled blouse from British women’s tailor Knatchbull and a pair of golden brown pumps from Ralph Lauren.

Her jewellery, always a mode for sentimental messaging, also offered a nod to the late queen. For the occasion, the Princess of Wales chose to wear the late monarch’s Bahrain Pearl and Diamond Drop earrings, which were gifted to her by the ruler of Bahrain as a wedding gift in 1947.

Wimbledon Women’s Finals, July 2025

The Princess of Wales marked her return to Wimbledon with not one, but two appearances over Final Weekend

Now, it’s safe to say that Middleton’s Wimbledon wardrobe is almost as famous as the royal herself. She’s become known for her pick of pretty tea dresses – and this year, she stuck to her winning formula by wearing a long white dress from London-based label Self-Portrait. (This look in particular has been a hit for the royal, who wore the same design in lime green for the 2023 Championships.)

She teamed up the dress with a white Anya Hindmarch tote and nude suede Gianvito Rossie pumps. For jewellery, the royal accessorised with a gold Halcyon Days bracelet, Cartier earrings and her green and purple bow-shaped brooch.

The Blonde Reveal, August 2025

One of the biggest shocks of the year? When Kate Middleton emerged from the summer holidays with ‘blonde’ hair. While not a fashion moment, we’d argue the pop culture moment deserves an honourable mention in this year’s roundup of best looks.

To recap, when the Prince and Princess of Wales were driving to a church service hosted at Balmoral back in August, the photographs – which seemingly depicted Middleton’s hair in a honeyed hue – set the internet alight. People were quick to call the royal’s new look ‘blonde’, while stylists argued it was simply a lighter toned bronde.

And when she stepped out in public just a few weeks later – debuting her new look in full, alongside a tweed Ralph Lauren blazer, white shirt, green trousers and brown pointed loafers – the debate began all over again. But don’t worry, we got an expert colourist’s take on the viral moment here.

US State Banquet, September 2025

It’s a real treat when we get to see the Princess of Wales dress up for more formal royal events – and with her being largely absent in 2024, her appearance at the US State Banquet felt all the more special.

Never one to shy away from a grand entrance, Middleton attended the event in a bespoke gold and ivory gown by British designer Phillipa Lepley. The London-based designer, who is best known for her work in couture bridal and eveningwear, has only been worn once before in public by the royal.

The Princess of Wales also turned to the royal family vault for a number of accessories, including Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara. A favourite of Middleton’s – she’s reportedly worn it on 12 other public occasions over the last decade – the pearl and diamond jewel tiara features an intertwined lovers’ knot and diamond arches, with large drop pearls dangling from each one.

Remembrance Day Service, November 2025

This year marked the Princess of Wales’ 15th Remembrance Day appearance as an official member of the royal family. And, as always, she remained an excellent example of how to bring elegance to ceremonial events.

For the Sunday service, the Princess of Wales opted for one of her trusty Catherine Walker coats (this one was first seen at the 2022 Remembrance Day service). The royal, who has become known for subtly updating key pieces in her wardrobe, adorned her coat with a new neckline – specifically with a black lace jabot and pie crust collar – to give it a fresh look. She paired the look with a sculpted black hat by Lock & Co., alongside various brooches and pins.

But it was her jewellery, consisting of various family heirlooms, that stole the show. Find out more about the history behind the Princess of Wales’ Remembrance Day jewellery here.

Royal Variety Performance, November 2025

The Royal Variety Performance always calls for members of the royal family to dress up – and dress up the Princess of Wales did. The theme of the evening? Green velvet.

Middleton stepped out in a Talbot Runhof gown sculpted in emerald-toned velvet, featuring a streamlined silhouette and draped bodice. The festive ensemble was teamed up with matching velvet heels from Manolo Blahnik and a glittering clutch by Jenny Packham.

Once again, the royal’s choice of jewellery also took a starring role. On her wrist, the Princess of Wales wore the Queen Mary Diamond Bar Choker bracelet, a piece made by Cartier for its namesake in the early 20th century. She also opted for royal gems on her ears, wearing the Greville diamond chandelier earrings – another antique piece, this time part of a large jewellery haul left to the Queen Mother in 1942, who later gifted them to Queen Elizabeth II on her wedding day in 1947.

Germany State Banquet, December 2025

Ending the year on a high with another state banquet – this time to welcome German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier – and another stunning gown.

Reverting to one of her favourite British dress designers, Jenny Packham, the Princess of Wales stepped out in a blue sequinned gown with a matching cape. Middleton, being a fan of symbolic dressing, chose the specific shade (a combination of cornflower and Prussian blue) as it is one often featured in German celebrations.

Perched on her head, meanwhile, was a piece of jewellery that hasn’t been seen outside the royal vault in over a decade: the Oriental Circlet Tiara. The piece, crafted by Garrard in 1853, was designed under the direction of Prince Albert, and was gifted to Queen Victoria.
