This royal knows how to take to the court in style
One of the biggest British sporting events in the summer calendar, Wimbledon is one of those ‘tick it off you bucket list’ experiences – if not for the game itself, then for the chance to see the royals up close and in person. And, being the AELTC‘s royal patron, Kate Middleton is a regular at Wimbledon. Ahead of this year’s Championships, we look back at some of the Princess of Wales’s best courtside looks, from summer dresses and chic tailoring to the her signature tennis whites.
What Is The Princess Of Wales’s Relationship With Wimbledon?
Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, is the current patron of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. She took over the role from Queen Elizabeth II in 2016, and since then has been an active representative of various sporting events in the UK – including the Wimbledon Championships.
This is also the reason why Kate’s visits to Wimbledon often see her wearing a green and purple bow. This symbol of her royal patronage was also gifted to her by the late Queen, and is worn by members of the Committee of Management (the Main Board of the AELTC and representatives of the LTA) during the championship, in recognition of their role and responsibilities.

How Many Times Has She Been?
The Princess of Wales has attended the Wimbledon Championships on behalf of the royal family every year since her wedding to Prince William in 2011, with the only exceptions being in 2013 (when she was pregnant with Prince George) and 2020 (during the COVID-19 pandemic).
Will Kate Middleton Be At Wimbledon 2025?
While the royal has made a return to public appointments following her battle with cancer last year, she has notably pulled out of multiple events this summer (including Chelsea Flower Show and Royal Ascot). But, as patron of the AELTC, it isa bit more likely that she will be in attendance at Wimbledon this year. Keep your eyes courtside.

2024: Royal Purple

It was uncertain whether Kate Middleton would put in an appearance at Wimbledon in 2024, as at the time she was still undergoing chemotherapy. But during the Championships Finals, the royal stepped out to join other patrons of the event in the Royal Box. Making her way down the steps with daughter Princess Charlotte, the royal was welcomed back to Centre Court via standing ovation.
And to mark the occasion, she deviated from her usual tennis whites and lawn greens – instead opting for another Wimbledon colour (and royal favourite): purple. The Princess of Wales wore a deep purple midi dress by Safiyaa London (an existing dress by the designer, which had been tailored to the royal’s tastes), accessorising with a nude L.K. Bennett handbag, two Halcyon Days bangles, Camilla Elphick sandals and her patron bow.

2023: The Lime Green Dress
Green was a signature colour for the Princess of Wales during the 2023 Wimbledon Championships – and this lime green Self-Portrait dress was the crowning glory of the royal’s tennis wardrobe. Worn during the Ladies Finals, the dress featured short sleeves, a tailored bouclé top trimmed with pockets, a waist belt and a pleated chiffon midi skirt. The royal is known for her fondness for Self-Portrait, and owns similar styles of the lime green dress pictured in shades of white, black and cream. She teamed up the eye-catching gown with Cassandra Goad pearl earrings, a pair of Gianvito Rossi suede slingbacks, Victoria Beckham sunglasses and a neutral-coloured clutch by Emmy London.

2023: The Balmain Blazer
Speaking of green, Kate Middleton also wore a double-breasted mint green Balmain blazer with a white lapel and buttons at the 2023 Championships, marking the first time the royal had been spotted in the French brand. She paired the jacket with a long white pleated skirt – a tenniscore nod to the traditional women’s tennis skirt – and a pair of white Gianvito Rossi pumps. Her outfit was finished off with a white leather Mulberry bag and jewellery from Shyla London and Sezane.

2022: The Polka Dot Dress
While spectators at the 2022 Men’s Finals were taken with Prince George’s Wimbledon debut, it was Kate Middleton’s courtside attire that stole the style set’s attention. The royal wore a navy blue polka dot dress (polka dots are yet another staple of the Princess’s Wimbledon wardrobe) by Alessandra Rich, which featured a peplum waist, crystal buttons and a 1980s-inspired Chelsea collar with a tie, alongside a pair of black and white slingback pumps from the same brand.

2022: The Roksanda Dress
This sunny yellow number was worn by the Princess of Wales at the 2022 Ladies Finals, and was designed by British luxury label Roksanda. A bespoke rendition of the brand’s Brigitte dress, the yellow gown featured added sleeves, an oversized bow on the shoulder and a long, softly pleated skirt. The royal originally wore the dress earlier in the year during the Platinum Jubilee Tour of the Caribbean, but made a reappearance at Wimbledon alongside a pair of white Gianvito Rossi 105 pumps, Kiki McDonough earrings (specifically the Eden Drops design in yellow gold, citrine and diamond) and straw sunhat from L.K. Bennett.

2022: The Blue Polka Dot Number
William and Kate made an appearance together on day nine of the 2022 Championships, during which she opted for a blue polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich. First seen at the Big Lunch during the Queen’s Jubilee Weekend, the dress featured slight puff sleeves, a belted waist and pleated detailing on the top and skirt. She turned to the same designer for her shoes: a pair of slingback pumps in white with a black toe. Elsewhere, she accessorised with a Mulberry handbag, a pair of pearl earrings by In2Design and Finley & Co. sunglasses.

2021: The Grass Green Dress
Did we mention this royal likes green? Keeping to her Wimbledon dress codes, Kate Middleton made an appearance wearing a grass green version of the Emilia Wickstead Denver dress, which the royal paired with white Jimmy Choo pumps, Kiki McDonough earrings and a Halcyon Days bangle. Her colour scheme on the day was a perfect reflection of the court itself, and further highlighted the Princess’s tenniscore-led Wimbledon style.

2019: The Baby Blue Number
For Men’s Finals Day in 2019, the then-Duchess of Cambridge had a baby blue moment in pretty midi dress by London-based designer Emilia Wickstead. Presenting the Championships trophy to Singles winner Novak Djokovic, the royal stepped out in dress as well as a pair of nude ALDO heels and pearl drop earrings from In2Design. In the stands, she teamed up the look with a vintage Josef beaded clutch and Ray Ban sunglasses.

2019: The Suzannah x Alexander McQueen Combo
Kate Middleton took tennis white seriously back in 2019, when she made a surprise visit to the Royal Box in a sleek button-front Suzannah London dress. The royal put her own spin on the gown, however, by adding a black Alexander McQueen bow belt that teamed up nicely with her custom woven Alexander McQueen bag and black Gianvito Rossi Piper suede pumps. The bow on her belt was also a lovely echo of the ribbon pinned to her lapel, highlighting her role as patron.

2018: The Polka Dot Dress
In her first outing to Wimbledon with sister-in-law Meghan Markle – and the first the two had made together without their husbands – Kate Middleton wore a bespoke dress by British designer Jenny Packham. A white polka dot midi dress with cap sleeves and ruffled detailing at the shoulder and waist, the look was topped off with a Dolce & Gabbana handbag, nude Gianvito Rossi pumps and a pair of pearl earrings from In2Design.
