Take a look inside

In February 2011 Lady Gaga went to Hit Factory studio in downtown NoHo, New York City, to make music history. For it was here that she recorded her hit single ‘Born This Way’. Once upon a time, it would’ve been a quick commute home for the star. For there was a brief period when Hit Factory was located just downstairs from her then-home, a luxury penthouse in the Hell’s Kitchen borough of Manhattan. Now on the market for $6.995m, take a look inside Lady Gaga’s former NYC home.

Inside Lady Gaga’s Home

Located in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan – a vibrant neighborhood on the West Side of Midtown – Lady Gaga’s (real name Stefani Germanotta) duplex apartment is perched atop the former Hit Factory recording studio. Since 1975, The Hit Factory studios have been behind 170 Grammy Awards, including 10 album of the year Grammys, three Academy Awards for best original song and 27 RIAA Diamond Awards. Music icons such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and John Lennon have all laid down tracks there.

One of NYC’s most historic recording studios, Hit Factory relocated to its West 54th Street and Tenth Avenue site (where Gaga’s former penthouse can be found) in 1993. Well-known albums recorded at this location include Michael Jackson’s ‘HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book 1’ double album, U2’s ‘Pop’ and Mariah Carey’s ‘Merry Christmas’ album (the one with that little-known hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ on the tracklist). The seven-storey site closed in 2005 and was converted into a 27-unit condominium, which sold out in 2011. Today, residents of the luxury property gain access to a doorman, a resident manager, a gym, and storage.

Like so many celebrity-owned homes, Gaga is far from this penthouse’s only A-list owner. Though the Bad Romance singer is certainly the most prominent name to sign her name on the deed, former basketball player Carmelo Anthony, basketball coach Amar’e Stoudemire, and comic actor Tracy Morgan have all also called the Hell’s Kitchen penthouse home. The property last sold in 2018 for $6.1 million, and is now up on the market for $7m with Douglas Elliman.

The apartment itself, known as Penthouse C, crowns the West 54th Street building’s top two floors. Inside, the three-bedroom penthouse spans 3,700 sq ft of living space, and boasts a large private terrace, alongside a glass-enclosed office, three full bathrooms and a powder room. Though the property has been renovated since Gaga’s time, the result is a light and airy feel, a loft-like space with contemporary finishings and oversized windows.

The property opens up through a double-height foyer which leads through to a spacious great room with 12 ft ceilings and a marble fireplace. From here, it’s through to the white marble kitchen, office, and two bedroom suites. The primary suite sits above, enjoying access to its very own skylight, window wall and walk-in closet, alongside a marble bathroom with shower and tub. The highlight of the home is the 1,1000 sq ft terrace overlooking the Manhattan skyline and Hudson River. Below, there’s also a deeded parking space – a rare convenience in the city.

Where Does Lady Gaga Live Today?

These days Lady Gaga’s primary base is a six-acre equestrian estate above Zuma Beach Malibu California, which she purchased for $22.5m in 2014. The Tuscan-style villa is made up of a 10,270 sq ft, five-bedroom main house, an 800-bottle wine cellar, a two-lane vintage bowling alley, a home theater, a saltwater pool, bocce ball court, horse stables, and even a secret ‘bat cave’ passageway. There are also reports that she and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, have relocated to a $10m mansion in Marin County, California, but the rumours are yet to be confirmed.
