An outbreak of TB has caused havoc at the farm

Farm shops are dotted all over the UK, but none so famous as the one at Diddly Squat Farm, Jeremy Clarkson’s latest venture. Diddly Squat Farm Shop is hugely popular, particularly in the summer months, when people flock far and wide to pick up some goods (and, more often than not, to get a selfie by the sign). But over the past couple of weeks, Diddly Squat has come down with Bovine Tuberculosis (Bovine TB), an infectious disease of cattle, causing fans to wonder whether the farm and its shop will be open for visitors this August and beyond.
Diddly Squat Farm Shop: Everything You Need To Know
Opened in 2020 by Clarkson and his wife Lisa Hogan, Diddly Squat Farm Shop came into the spotlight after featuring on Clarkson’s Farm, the Prime Video series documenting the former TV presenter as he navigates life on the farm. Clarkson took over the Cotswolds farm (which he named Diddly Squat after its lack of profit and productivity) in 2008, eventually taking over the running operations himself in 2019.
Clarkson decided to open the farm shop after accidentally producing 40 tonnes of potatoes. It sells produce grown at the farm, alongside some products from its Cotswolds neighbours: on the website, it’s described as a ‘small barn full of good, no-nonsense things you’ll like’, adding, ‘we do not, for example, sell kale’.
Instead, you’ll find things like Clarkson’s own Hawkstone beer, the famous Cow Juice Vodka and Bee Juice Rum, plus homemade jams, honeys, chutneys, oils, spices and seasonings. It’s not just food and drink either: the shop also sells Clarkson’s Farm memorabilia, such as T-shirts, beanies, scarves, caps, socks and candles.
Can You Visit Diddly Squat Farm Shop?
Yes, Diddly Squat is currently open for visitors. Earlier this week, Clarkson posted on X: ‘Bad news from Diddly Squat. We’ve gone down with TB. Everyone here is absolutely devastated.’ Later, he added, ‘It doesn’t affect people, just our poor cows.’ He also spoke on Times Radio, saying, ‘It’s awful, it is awful. You have a test every six months on the cows, and then you sort of become blasé. It’s a hypothetical threat. And then the vet looks up as he did yesterday lunchtime and said, “I’m really sorry this one’s failed”. So that means we’re now locked down and it’s just dreadful, absolutely dreadful.’
While this means they can’t currently buy or sell any cows, Clarkson clarified that the shop is unaffected, which was later confirmed in a post on the Diddly Squat Farm Shop Instagram page.
The opening times are 9.30am – 4.30pm, Thursday – Sunday. However, expect long queues on weekends: the car park is usually full by midday, and sometimes the queue is shut off early due to business. If this is the case, you can always pop down the road for a drink at Clarkson’s pub, The Farmer’s Dog. And while you can’t just wander around the farm, you get a good look at the landscape, and may even bump into Clarkson, Hogan, or the show’s breakout star Kaleb Cooper.
Products from the shop are also available to buy online.
