Game, set, eat

Never got a chance to dine at the Roux family’s restaurant, Le Gavroche? The London stalwart closed in January after 56 years – but now fans have another chance to try its legendary dishes. Arriving at Wimbledon this summer is Le Gavroche at The Lawn, a pop-up restaurant from Michel Roux and his team.

Le Gavroche at The Lawn: Michel Roux Is Coming To Wimbledon

Running in partnership with entertainment group Keith Prowse, the residency will be an ‘ultra premium’ food offering, featuring a tasting menu made up of some of Le Gavroche’s most famous signature dishes, paired with wines. Le Gavroche’s famous cheese trolley will also be making an appearance, alongside a bar serving vintage champagne and bespoke cocktails.

The space, too, will mirror its predecessor, complete with historic artwork and artefacts from the Mayfair restaurant, plus a private balcony and a glass wine wall frontage.

‘When we announced the closure of the restaurant, we said that the Le Gavroche name will live on, and this will be a Wimbledon experience to remember,’ said Roux. ‘It’s not just a chance to enjoy an iconic Le Gavroche menu, but also to be surrounded with some of the memorabilia that made Le Gavroche a welcoming and beautiful place to enjoy for so many years’.

Hospitality packages are now almost sold out for Wimbledon, so this offers fans one more opportunity to secure a spot at the Championships. Unsurprisingly, though, it’ll cost you: seats begin at £2,305.

Le Gavroche opened back in 1967, founded by the late Albert and Michel Roux. It was quickly awarded with one Michelin star – the first UK eatery to do so, and went on to receive two more. Though it modernised and evolved over the years, the principles of sophisticated French cuisine remained at the heart of the restaurant throughout – with some dishes, like the cheese souffle, staying on the menu until the end.

Wimbledon 2024 will take place from 1 – 14 July 2024. Find out more about Le Gavroche at The Lawn at keithprowse.co.uk.
