The foodie launches to have on your radar right now
There’s plenty to be excited about on the London foodie scene this autumn. As well as all the buzzy pop-ups and supper clubs, a whole host of new restaurants are primed to open their doors. From Santiago Lastra’s hotly anticipated launch to a sister restaurant to Islington hotspot The Tamil Prince, here are the new restaurants opening in London in October 2024.
London Restaurant Openings: October 2024
Fonda, Mayfair
Santiago Lastra’s Mexican restaurant Kol has been a huge hit since opening in 2020, securing a Michelin star and a coveted spot on the World’s Best Restaurants list. Now, Lastra is back with another venture, Fonda, set to open this September on Heddon Street. With the name referring to a Mexican family-owned restaurant, the eatery will draw on family recipes and the dishes of Lastra’s childhood – plus his own travels around Mexico. Like Kol, premium British ingredients will be the focus, used to create unique dishes like Baja tacos with cucumber, pistachio and mint sauce; chalk stream trout ceviche; and beetroot tostadas with elderflower vinegar. There will also be regularly changing specials such as duo de callo – confit whole scallops on a gooseberry, sesame and burnt habanero salsa. No doubt this will be another winner, particularly as it will have a more affordable price point than its sister restaurant.

Tamila, Clapham
The Tamil Prince is one of Islington’s most beloved pubs, with a strong food offering centred around Indian cuisine. And now south Londoners can have a taste too, thanks to a new opening from the team on the other side of the river. Opening this October on Northcote Road in Clapham is Tamila, The Tamil Prince’s fast, casual little sister. It will feature a menu inspired by co-founder and executive chef Prince Durairaj’s South Indian heritage, with highlights including a dedicated dosa section, snacks like chicken lollipops and masala dosa, plus plenty of the curries and roti the concept is known for. All this can be paired with Indian-inspired cocktails such as the Gunpowder Margarita, alongside the house Tamila lager and draught wine.

Fantômas, Chelsea
The King’s Road is lined with great restaurants, but there’s always room for one more. Chelsea’s newest culinary launch is Fantômas, a neighbourhood restaurant spearheaded by former 108 Garage chef Chris Denney. It will offer a modern European menu with Asian influence: opening dishes will include braised hispi cabbage with BBQ miso, diver scallops with goan masala, boneless chicken wings, and pumpkin and almond agnolotti. The cocktail menu will also be a highlight, with favourites including a Miso Old Fashioned, Pandan Iced Tea and Capri Cooler.

Alongside the relaunch of Japanese restaurant Sachi, there will be a new Provençal restaurant called Amélie. Led by ex-Annabel’s head chef Steve Raveneau, the eatery will bring the flavours and spirit of the French Riviera to London, open for lunch and dinner. The decadent food offering will include an exclusive caviar menu, alongside an extensive wine list spotlighting vineyards from France and beyond.

The Grill at The Hero Maida Vale
After having huge success with The Pelican in Notting Hill, and Cotswolds pub The Bull in Charlbury, Public House Group opened a third venture earlier this year in Maida Vale, The Hero. The chic gastropub has been characteristically popular – and now the team have expanded the offering by introducing The Grill. Housed in the high-ceilinged upstairs dining room, this offers an elevated experience centred around dishes cooked over open fire. The menu was created in collaboration with executive chef Ed Baillieu, focusing on meat and fish grills, like raw beef with hash browns, dressed crab, and pork T-bone with apple and John Dory.

Delamina Townhouse
Following the success of the original Delamina in Marylebone, and its Shoreditch sister, Limor and Amir Chen are back with a third restaurant, this one in Covent Garden. Delamina Townhouse will open its doors in October, offering the vibrant Eastern Mediterranean flavours fans have come to know and love. Diners will be able to enjoy signature dishes like charred cauliflower with pomegranate molasses, and beef shawarma with date and pine kernels – plus the beloved Kadayif nest dessert, topped with vanilla cheesecake cream, pecans and orange peel reduction. But there will also be exciting newbies, including Arak-cured sea trout with foamed labneh, and za’atar-marinated seafood with golden beetroot aioli. Housed in a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse, it will be a feast for the eyes too, with period features and a neutral colour palette, plus a small outdoor terrace.
