The farming event returns this June
Every summer since 2006, farms across the UK have opened their doors to the public for a behind-the-scenes look at how our food is produced. Over the years, the event has become a key fixture on the farming calendar, offering the chance to showcase the crucial work farmers do – and educate people on the importance of growing food sustainably while also caring for the environment. Ahead of the 19th edition of the event on 8 June 2025, here’s everything you need to know.
What Is Open Farm Sunday?
Run by farming charity LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), Open Farm Sunday is a national event which sees farms hosting open days, featuring an array of activities, workshops and talks for all ages. It was introduced as a way of building connections between farmers and the public, showing insight into how our food is made, and highlighting the importance of looking after our natural world.
The event has been proven to inspire positive habits, with recent OFS data showing 91 percent of visitors are motivated to buy more British produce after attending. ‘With over 150,000 visitors attending OFS events each year, the impact this initiative has on the public’s understanding of sustainable farming is huge,’ said LEAF Education specialist, Sam Wyman. ‘They’re willing to learn, and clearly the best person to tell the story of British farming his farmers themselves. Spreading that insight and encouraging appreciation for what farmers do, day-in-day-out is more important than ever.’
How To Get Involved
You can find out which farms are taking part near you using the Farm Sunday website. Events are free to attend but many farms require booking in advance via the website. Some highlights for 2025 include:
Goodwood, Sussex
See inside one of the UK’s most famous organic farms, Goodwood, this June. Visitors will have the chance to see heritage breeds of cattle, sheep and pigs, as well as watch sheep shearing demonstrations, joining woodland walks and taking part in tractor rides.
Kirkton Farm, Scotland
Aberdeenshire farm Kirkton is getting involved with Open Farm Sunday for the first time this year. A range of activities will be on offer, including a tractor tour of the farm and sheepdog demonstrations. Forest Farm Dairy, meanwhile, will be bringing its dairy calves, along with homemade gelato to try.
Ragley Estate Farm
Following the success of its event last year, LEAF marque certified farm Ragley Estate is returning with another Open Farm Sunday, with more displays and more tickets available. There will be demonstrations of farm machinery, animals and crops, as well as children’s craft activities. Plus, visitors will have the chance to tour the estate’s grand state rooms like The Great Hall and The Red Saloon.
