Philantropica: How This $3,500 Drink Is Combatting Plastic Pollution

This rare drink from Ocean Bottle is making waves in the fight against plastic

The hottest drink to be seen sipping in 2026? It’s not a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, nor a trendy new-age alcohol-free spirit, but a soft drink named Philantropica. There are just 1,000 bottles available globally, and stars like Elton John, Harrison Ford and Bella Ramsey have already snapped one up. Granted, it will set you back a cool $3,500 – but this is no ordinary drink. Philantropica is a new luxury drinks concept from the team behind Ocean Bottle, designed to fund the collection of one million plastic bottles in coastal communities facing plastic pollution.

Ocean Bottle has long been known for its environmental impact, with each of its standard bottles sold funding the collection of 11.4kg of ocean-bound plastic. Most recently, the company launched a collection with Liberty featuring reworked designs from the brand’s archive. But Philantropica scales things up, aiming to make an even bigger difference by upping the ante on price. These bottles are not just bottles, but luxury pieces of art.

We spoke to Ocean Bottle’s founders to find out more about the project.

How is Philantropica trying to change the narrative around both charitable fundraising and luxury?

Luxury brands hold immense cultural power, but for too long, ‘giving back’ has been an afterthought – a quiet donation or a PR pledge. We’re flipping that entirely. Philantropica channels consumerism as a force multiplier for nature philanthropy.

Make no mistake: our bottles are fine art. They are strictly limited and carry a top-tier price point to match. But here is the fundamental difference: traditional luxury prices an object for profit and prestige – we price our objects entirely for the impact they create and what they do for the world. Because the truth is, if every brand in the world gave just one percent of its revenue to the planet and carried a small level of responsibility for the world they depend on, we could start solving some of the greatest environmental challenges of our time within a couple of decades. Saving the planet shouldn’t be free…

What is the ultimate goal of Philantropica?

To rewrite the rules of commerce. Our ambition is to build a high-capacity brand engine that channels attention, aspiration and capital directly into large-scale ocean restoration. We want to prove that all consumer brands can be active agents of ecological regeneration – demonstrating that the ultimate modern luxury isn’t just owning something rare, but restoring something irreplaceable.

Why did now feel like the right time to launch it?

Sustainability has fallen off centre stage, but nature cannot wait for traditional charity models to catch up. We are in a make-or-break decade for the planet, and standard non-profit fundraising simply isn’t operating at the speed or scale required. At the same time, luxury products are two dimensional. They do nothing for the world, all whilst their customers are actually looking for real, tangible legacy. The timing is precise: high-net-worth collectors are ready for radical transparency, and nature desperately needs bold, capital-backed solutions.

Do the bottles contain a drink?

Yes, you get one drink with your special bottle. When deciding on the liquid, we asked ourselves what the most wonderfully over-the-top tropical fruit could be, and we landed on the pineapple.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, pineapples were the ultimate symbol of wealth and hospitality – people displayed them just to show off to their guests how special the occasion was and today you have extravagances like the Rubyglow pineapple that retails for $400. We decided to bring the pineapple back as a luxury symbol, but this time with a much bigger purpose behind it.

Will people actually be buying the bottles?

Crucially, yes. You can actually buy it. Our customers are strictly private and confidential, however we have privately placed these products with almost 100 globally recognised names. This isn’t a flippant purchase; it’s a financial decision that will make your legacy taste great.

The scarcity alone drives the demand-there will only ever be 1,000 bottles of Philantropica Original available in the entire world, priced at $3,500 each. Furthermore, because we are setting up the Philantropica Fund as a non-profit fundraising vehicle, these bottles will be eligible for tax deduction in multiple jurisdictions, effectively making it the world’s first tax-deductible soft drink. It appeals to those who understand that the most valued things are made carefully, shared thoughtfully, and leave a monumental footprint in the right direction on the world.

Can you explain what the money will go towards?

All the proceeds from Philantropica go to plastic collection and ocean health initiatives. The Philantropica Fund will be established precisely for this purpose.

Specifically, this is how it works:

  • We execute this using Ocean Bottle’s existing infrastructure, working with partner organisations in coastal communities that lack formal waste management.
  • Individuals in these communities are able to exchange collected plastic waste for an income.
  • This not only stops the plastic from polluting rivers, waterways, and the ocean, but it also drives social mobility by providing access to financial literacy, health insurance, and education.
  • Further capital is allocated towards marine ecosystems and protection.
