The experts weigh in

On 3 July, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wed with all the fanfare you would expect for two of the biggest names in the music and sporting worlds. Their venue choice of Madison Square Garden, a virtual fortress, has meant the details of the day remain closely guarded. Yet reported catering deliveries and sightings from outside the venue offer a glimpse into what may have been served. To interpret the food menu, we turned to Chef Sohan Bhandari of London’s Colonel Saab, who has cooked for everyone from Reese Witherspoon and Jackie Chan to Jennifer Coolidge and Jeff Goldblum, as well as Jack Godik, head chef at Soho’s famous Argentinian restaurant, Sucre. If anyone understands the balance between celebrity expectations and memorable hospitality, it’s them.

What Was On Taylor Swift’s Wedding Menu

The Food

Reportedly entering the venue has been eggs, tomatoes, butter, turkey, wheat wraps, onion rings, peppers, lettuce, lobster, three different types of chicken, and Tropicana orange juice. Not to mention celebrity brands like Danny and Coop’s Cheesesteaks, co-owned by Bradley Cooper, and Garage Beer, which hails the groom himself as its largest investor.

A food truck from Sartiano’s, a famed Italian restaurant in Manhattan and a well-documented favourite of the couple, was also spotted, alongside a large Krispy Kreme delivery.

‘The menu appears to have centred around elevated American comfort food rather than a traditional formal wedding banquet,’ Bhandari says. ‘What I find particularly interesting is the balance between luxury and familiarity. Rather than focusing exclusively on fine dining, it’s the dishes that people genuinely enjoy sharing at a party.’

Godik agrees. ‘It looks like they were going for casual, satisfying food,’ he says. ‘It definitely has an American feel to it, maybe New England, with the inclusion of blackened lobster and a cobb salad feel.’

The Signature Cocktails

The accompanying signature cocktails, The English Teacher and The Gym Teacher, a quippy reference to the singer’s engagement announcement on Instagram, offer delightful pairings for the guests.

‘I love the theming,’ says Godik. ‘It feels so authentic to them and their relationship. Especially the tequila options, it’s a perfectly refreshing option on a hot day.’

‘The English Teacher, with elderflower, lavender and fresh citrus, would pair beautifully with lighter dishes such as lobster and fresh salads,’ explains Bhandari. ‘Whilst The Gym Teacher, with its smoky tequila and mezcal profile, naturally complements grilled meats, barbecue dishes, and cheesesteaks.’

The third cocktail on the list, T&Tequila, with pineapple, hibiscus and chilli, would also pair particularly well with fried chicken and pizza, helping to balance the richness of those dishes, according to Bhandari.

How The Evening Was Structured

The focus on guest enjoyment over unnecessary complexity also seems to have carried through to the structure of the evening. The dishes suggest the evening was designed as a progression of dining experiences rather than one continuous formal meal.

‘I would expect the evening began with welcome cocktails and elegant canapés,’ Bhandari suggests, ‘followed by either a seated dinner or a carefully curated buffet. As the evening became more relaxed, the food trucks would naturally become a focal point of the celebrations, serving comfort food favourites while guests continued to socialise and dance.’

This relaxed style of catering has become increasingly popular for large scale events, allowing for moving around, interaction and discovering different food experiences throughout the evening rather than remaining seated for several hours. ‘It creates a far more energetic atmosphere and encourages a more memorable celebration,’ Bhandari continues.

A Nutritionist’s Verdict

So the menu is a hit with the experts, but what of its nutrition? Gabriela Peacock, nutritionist to the likes of Dame Joan Collins and Princess Beatrice and founder of GP Nutrition, is no stranger to dissecting what celebrities are actually eating. Her new series with Hello! Magazine, Don’t Judge Me!, sees her diving through celebrity fridges whilst providing expert nutritional guidance.

‘This menu appears to strike a good balance between enjoyment and variety,’ she says. ‘It’s exactly what you’d hope to see at a wedding. Rather than focusing on one style of food, there seems to be a range of options, giving guests the flexibility to choose something that suits both their appetite and dietary preferences.’

As details continue to unfold around the couple’s big day, it’s clear that their guests’ enjoyment was at the centre of their food decision making. As Peacock puts it, ‘Weddings are a time to celebrate.’ She adds: ‘Stay hydrated, eat regularly to keep energy levels stable and, most importantly, enjoy the day.’
