The Trafalgar Public House will open this October

Chelsea’s King’s Road is seeing a whole host of new openings at the moment, from the recently launched Cafe Linea to food emporium Arthur’s Market. And now we have news of one more. This October, The Trafalgar Public House will open its doors within a Grade II listed Cadogan Estate former bank – the first pub to be built on the street for over a century.

The Trafalgar: Chelsea Is Getting A New Pub

It’s a project from Three Cheers Pub Co, the team behind South West favourites like The Latchmere and The Avalon in Clapham, helmed by Tom Peake, Mark Reynolds and Nick Fox. Named after Britain’s victory in the Battle of Trafalgar, the pub has undergone a £2.4 million refurbishment to create a modern yet characterful venue for drinking and dining.

The Trafalgar will be spread across two floors. Upstairs will feature large Georgian windows, glittering chandeliers and cosy booths, with vintage artwork lining the walls. Downstairs, meanwhile, will be the party space, complete with a first-class sound system and a standout mirrored ceiling. Here, guests can enjoy a programme of live music, creative arts and cabaret events, with stand-up shows from comedy group Always Be Comedy every Thursday. The space will also be available to hire for private events.

Food will be a pivotal part of The Trafalgar too, but we haven’t yet got word on the menu.

‘We are delighted to be taking on this historic site and creating a wonderful new public house, a home from home for Chelsea locals and visitors alike,’ said Peake. ‘We are proud to be a part of this exciting development and look forward to bringing a real sense of community and connection to the area that only a proper British pub can.’

Hugh Seaborn, Chief Executive of Cadogan added: ‘The Trafalgar will be a great addition to the King’s Road. Pubs are a central part of community life and we are proud to be reintroducing not just a brilliant pub, but one that will contribute towards Chelsea’s fantastic arts scene with unmissable music, theatre, comedy and performance. We know that it will be welcomed by locals and become a new destination for those visiting Chelsea.’

This will be the tenth pub in the Three Cheers Pub Co group. The trio’s first opening was The Abbeville in 2003, and since then they have opened a string of successful pubs like The Stonhouse in Clapham, The Rosendale in Dulwich and The Bedford in Balham, scooping up a number of awards along the way.

The King’s Road is one of London’s most historic streets. Until 1830, it was used as a private road for King Charles II, who would use it to travel to his palaces in St James’ and Hampton Court. In 1855, it was renamed Cemetery Road following the opening of the new Chelsea cemetery, but this changed back in 1911 to mark the coronation of George V.

During the 1960s, the King’s Road began to earn its fashionable, bohemian reputation. It became a hub for art, music and fashion, spearheaded by names like Mary Quant and Alexander Plunkett-Greene, who opened boutiques on the street. More recently, it has become something of a foodie hotspot, home to numerous great restaurants, bars and pubs.

There’s a particularly big buzz around the area right now, with the inaugural Chelsea Arts Festival set to kick off next week: a four-day celebration of the capital’s culture featuring names like Ian McEwan, Ambika Mod, Elizabeth Day and Matt Haig.

The Trafalgar Public House will open at 224-226 King’s Road, London SW3 5UA this October, thetrafalgarchelsea.com
