Bring a bit of the seaside into your home
Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside. Maximalism is trending (again), which means wallpaper is very much back on the agenda. And with these seaside wallpaper designs, you can make believe that your living room, bedroom or downstairs loo is somewhere on the great British coastline.
Coastal Interiors Are Making A Comeback
It’s difficult to ignore the call of the sea. Our island nation has built an entire culture around its beaches, built on sunny day trips filled with seagulls, sunscreen and dollops of Mr Whippy. Now a recipe for nostalgia, it’s easy to see why we still hold a torch for our great British coastline – especially at home, where themed decor really shines.
And for homes that do sit beside the seaside, it’s all the more fun to play into coastal inspirations. A coastal home often comes with its own treasures: large, ocean-facing windows, sea-weathered wooden surfaces, an aquatic colour palette (think sand, seaglass green and pale blue) and an impressive collection of seashells and pebbles foraged while beachcombing.

Divine Savages
The walls, however, are where you can really have some fun. They might be a canvas for marine prints, driftwood sculptures and coastal paintings by local artists – but beyond that, it’s the wallpaper that can really give a seaside space its character.
But don’t fret over nautical stripes and aquamarine shells – which we’re also on board with, just to be clear. There are plenty of ways to do a beach theme without looking like a vintage postcard. ‘We’ve really enjoyed infusing delicate botanical flourishes with ornamental shells and soft oceanic motifs, bringing a whisper of coastal elegance and quiet sophistication to interiors,’ says Jamie Watkins, co-founder of Divine Savages. He’s referencing the brand’s 2026 launch, Ophelia’s Tide, which he dubs ‘a coastal, ocean or beach-inspired wallpaper with a more elevated, decorative feel.’
It’s not just patterns that are evolving when it comes to seaside themes – colours are too. ‘We’re seeing more people embrace colour and experiment beyond a traditional blue-and-white coastal palette,’ confirms James. ‘Coral tones are especially popular; they recall the delicate blush of sea treasures and the gentle glow of evening light by the shore. Meanwhile, soft sage tones evoke the fresh calm of sea air and the natural elegance of coastal flora.’

Expert Tips For Styling A Seaside Wallpaper
Curate, Don’t Clutter
With most wallpapers offering colours, maximalist prints, you don’t have to fill up the remaining space with seaside-themed paraphernalia. ‘Avoid being drawn in by overly clichéd coastal accessories,’ Jamie advises. ‘Let the wallpaper do the talking.’
Think About The Wider Room
Following on from the above, Jamie adds that the wider room can be styled more plainly. This not only balances the room, but lets your wallpaper pop. ‘When choosing a patterned wallpaper to add personality and visual interest, be sure to team it with plenty of plain elements in complementary tones so as not to overwhelm the space,’ he adds.
Colour Match
And when it comes to colour schemes, thinking matchy-matchy. ‘For tiled or painted surfaces in a bathroom, try to match the colour to the wallpaper as closely as possible,’ recommends James. ‘The closer the colour matches, the more cohesive and calming the overall look will feel – helping to create the serene, restorative atmosphere associated with coastal interiors.’
