Your Wardrobe Shouldn’t Be Without A Denim Maxi Skirt This Spring – Here’s Why

It's finally maxi season

This season’s style hero? A denim maxi skirt. The perfect transeasonal wardrobe staple, a denim maxi is just as handy as a pair of jeans. Dress it up, dress it down – or dress it somewhere in between – its flexibility is perfect for battling the fickle British weather. And when it comes to styling tips, look no further. Here you’ll find plenty of mood board inspiration, as well as our top shopping picks for spring 2026.

Denim Maxi Skirts Are Experiencing A Revival

Spring is a tricky season to nail. Cold mornings, warm afternoons – and the (inevitable, but no less irritating) rogue bouts of rain – make it difficult to know what to wear on any given day. But thankfully, there’s one staple we’re sure we can rely on whatever the weather: a denim maxi.

This is a skirt that simply does not fall out of fashion. First introduced to mainstream fashion in the 1970s as a way to repurpose worn denim trousers, the denim maxi has undergone plenty of evolutions over the last four decades – with a recent favourite being the low-slung jean skirts of the 2000s – and has since become one of the chicest basics to have in your wardrobe.

Now lining the shops in a huge variety of denim washes (as well as the occasional pop of colour), silhouettes (from form-fitting slips to flared skirts) and hemlines (assymetrical lines are having a moment right now), it’s never been easier to find the denim maxi skirt of dreams.

Neutral Layers

One thing you’re guaranteed to need in spring? Layers. A denim maxi and a simple tee will work during the day, but for first thing and later in the evening you’ll want to have a few extra pieces in your wardrobe rotation. Quick tip: stick to neutral-toned add-ons that will give your outfit a greater sense of colour cohesion. (And for future mix-and-matching opportunities.)

Graphic Tee

And when layers are no longer needed, stick to the hero formula: denim and a graphic t-shirt. Understated and low-effort (but no less chic), this is the easiest way to get your maxi fix. Team up with loafers for an elevated look, or switch to trainers for something more casual.

Dark Wash

Blue denim may be the popular choice, but don’t count out a dark wash look this season. Perfect for nights out or semi-casual days in the office, you can pair this particular shade of senim with a relaxed silhouette shirt and ballet flats – or, if you feel so inclined (and the weather permits it) flip flops.

White Denim

And as the dial shifts from spring to summer, you can lean into those lighter washes – think white, cream and stone – and warm weather accessories. Ideal for pairing with billowy shirts, sandals and basket bags.
