These stylist-approved hair trends are set to rule summer 2025
Summer is calling – and so is the salon. There’s nothing better than stepping into the new season with a fresh new cut, especially one that already has the seal of approval from the experts. But which ones are doing the rounds this season? Here, we round up some of the biggest hair trends for summer 2025, as told by stylists.
All The Major Hair Trends For Summer 2025
Summer calls for natural textures, beach-bound waves and low-maintenance styling – characteristics which a lot of these hair trends share. Whether its a shaggy cut, a strategically cut bob or long, layered strands, there’s something for everyone in the salon this season.

1. Air-Cut Layers
First up: a layered cut with lots of movement. ‘Air-cut layers are going to define summer 2025,’ says Jason Collier, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Studio23. ‘They’re feather-light and free-flowing, creating soft structure without sacrificing movement. It’s perfect for warm weather as it’s breathable, effortless, and made to enhance your hair’s natural texture.’

2. Shadow-Shaped Shags
This season also marks the return of the shag, notes Jason – but not as you might remember it. ‘This is the shag cut for the minimalist. Think soft, blurred layers cut to follow the natural fall of the hair, paired with grown-in fringes. It’s about silhouette over structure, giving you a cool, moody shape with minimal styling required.’

3. Sunkissed Crop
Stylists also predict that short hair will continue to hold a top spot in the salon this season. ‘I can see shorter cuts are going softer, playing on summery hues and lighting,’ adds Jason. ‘Take the sunkissed crop: a playful, collarbone-grazing style with tousled ends and subtle layering that mimics how hair naturally lightens and lifts in the sun. It’s carefree, romantic and ideal for those wanting a low-maintenance cut that still looks chic on holiday or at home.’

4. Blunt Bob
On the other end of the short hair scale is the ultra-sleek blunt bob. ‘With its clean, sharp lines, it is striking and somewhat bold, yet there is something refreshingly simple about its appeal,’ explains Suzie McGill, Artistic Director of Rainbow Room International. ‘This cut is designed to be eye-catching without feeling overdone; it focuses on precision, offering a strong, structured shape that naturally enhances the face. It’s a polished style without feeling too rigid.’
But that’s not to say this is ‘one look forever’ kind of cut. ‘Traditionally, the blunt bob features crisp edges for impact, but it can easily be modified for a softer effect,’ confirms Suzie. ‘Subtle changes in length, gentle layering at the ends, or a more relaxed finish around the jawline can really change its overall appearance, making it a suitable choice for various hair textures and personal styles. Whether worn sleek and straight for a refined look or tousled for a more relaxed vibe, the blunt bob is quietly versatile, it’s an understated yet modern cut that feels fresh.’

5. Italian Bob
Another bob on our radar this season is a comes courtesy of a classic. ‘The Italian bob takes its inspiration from the Dolce Vita lifestyle, transporting you straight to the Amalfi Coast with an Aperol Spritz in your hand,’ says celebrity stylist Nicholas James. ‘This jaw-grazing bob is defined by it’s almost romantic feel with its wispy ends and face-framing edges, making for an ultra-feminine silhouette. The slightly uneven ends add movement and body to the cut and can be completely tailored to the individual with added definition or texture. Ultimately, this luxuriously polished cut embodies the essence of summer with its care-free feel – combining passion with a vintage vibe.’

6. Midi Collarbone Shag
Another shag – and this time, it leans into the cool messiness of the classic. ‘For slightly longer hair, it has to be this midi collarbone shag,’ says Don Kurland, an expert stylist at Blue Tit Portobello. ‘It delivers on both volume and cool-girl ease. Think layers that move, bounce and frame your face without giving up any length. It’s the ultimate “I woke up like this” style.’

7. Beach Waves
Beach-carved waves always make their way back into the salon come summer – and the more lived-in they are, the better. ‘Beach waves channel that holiday vibe,’ confirms Don. ‘They’re effortless and low maintenance. Just bring in some sea salt spray and a little scrunching, and you’ve got that signature look.’

8. Micro Bob
Ready to take your hair even shorter this season? Then you’ll want to try a micro bob. ‘It’s short, jaw-defining and seriously cool,’ highlights Don. ‘It gives the illusion you’ve got everything together, even if you’re just running errands. For that sleek-yet-bouncy finish, a round-brush blow-dry and a little texture spray is the go-to combo. Flick the ends out for a retro feel and you’re golden.’

9. Glass Hair
And one of the biggest underlying hair trends for summer – if not all of 2025 – is super shiny glass hair. ‘This trend is going nowhere,’ confirms Don. ‘It’s glossy, sleek, and shines like a mirror under the summer sun.’ The stylist notes that the emphasis here is on hair health (a luxury shampoo will help speed things along), as well as slick styling. ‘Straighten in small sections after smoothing in a serum, then finish with gloss spray to catch the light.’
