The Top 5 Women-Only Gyms In London

No mansplaining in sight

Whether it’s unsolicited advice, intimidation or cheesy chat-up lines, too many women have been made to feel uncomfortable during a workout. A recent survey by Origym found that six in 10 women have felt harassed in the gym by a man, citing things like patronising and inappropriate comments and standing too close. Consequently, there’s increased interest surrounding women-only gyms – with searches for the term increasing by 69 per cent over the past year. Keen to hear more? We’ve pulled together the best female-focused fitness studios across the city.

The Best Women-Only Gyms In London

1. Lift Studio LDN

Set up by friends Danni and Mimi in 2021, Lift Studio LDN was founded with the goal to create a safe space for women looking to build their strength and confidence when it comes to learning how to lift. The all-female team is made up of enthusiastic professionals (you can meet them all here), who take a ‘training for nourishment, not punishment’ approach. You can head over to the studio to try one of their intimate group sessions, one-on-one personal training, 121 check ins or technique workshops today.

2. The Bridge

Charity The Bridge was initially set up in the 1930s after WW1, a time when many young women were moving to London to find work. It provided a safe space for women to meet, with the aim of supporting their intellectual, spiritual and societal needs. The Southwark venue itself offered accommodation, a café, a gym and a swimming pool – a similar set up to how it stands today. The gym offers memberships as well as a range of fitness classes, from strength training to Pilates and dance – all taught by female instructors, naturally.

4. Fitology Hub

This women-only gym began with one female client, training on Hilly Fields in Brockley at 5am back in 2016. Word spread, and more and more women began signing up to join the outdoor workouts, run by founders Suzanne and Amber. Soon they decided it was time to trade the chilly mornings for something more permanent, and set up camp in the Brockley Cross Business Centre. The space, now known as Fitology Hub, offers both personal and semi-private fitness training for women, as well as virtual sessions.
