Everything We Know About The St Regis London (So Far)

Two Astor family legacies are landing in London within months of each other, more than a century after the family first got into the hotel business. John Jacob Astor IV opened the original St Regis in New York in 1904. Waldorf Astoria, racing to open its own London debut at Admiralty Arch later this year, traces back to his cousin William Waldorf Astor, who built the original Waldorf next door in 1893. Whether that’s a coincidence, or Mayfair simply catching up on a century of American hotel dynasties, we can’t say. But here’s everything we know so far about the first of the two arrivals, the St Regis London.

First announced in 2022, originally pencilled in for 2024, it’s now confirmed for Autumn 2026, taking over the site of the former Westbury Hotel on the corner of Bond Street and Conduit Street. 

The Opening Date

Two years might seem like a long time to sit on an opening date, but according to reports, the scale of what’s happened behind the hoardings is grand. This isn’t a repaint and a rebrand: Marriott and the building’s owners, Cola Holdings and The Westbury Hotel Limited, signed off on adding two entire new floors, pushing the public spaces out further, and reworking the whole building around a new Richmond International design. The room count has grown to 193, including 66 suites, which is a meaningfully bigger hotel than the one that stood here before.

The Location

Bond Street on one side, Conduit Street on the other, it’s about as central Mayfair as you can get – right in the middle of the area’s gallery-and-flagship stretch as an address gets. Their target market is the ‘fashion, arts and society’ crowd. 

What’s The Food & Drinks Story?

The headline is Le Perroquet, an all-day French brasserie from chef Daniel Rose, best known for La Bourse et La Vie in Paris and the Michelin-starred Le Coucou in New York. This is his first restaurant in London, so will likely be a big draw for the St Regis. Alongside him as executive head chef is Robert Aikens, identical twin of chef Tom Aikens, who spent his own career leading Pastis and Veronika in New York. Two established New York names, both making a first move to London. Beyond the restaurant, there’s a classic St Regis Bar (billed as a late night jazz bar), an intimate Library, and a private dining room for up to 18 guests.

The Art Collection

Every bedroom, suite and public space will carry work curated by Sarabande Foundation’s House of Bandits gallery, the foundation set up by the late Lee Alexander McQueen to support emerging artists. There will be over 1,000 artworks by more than 80 artists, many of them bespoke commissions made specifically for the hotel and its Mayfair setting. 

St Regis, London Rooms & Suites

There are set to be 193 rooms in total, 66 of them suites. The top room will be the Penthouse Suite, which comes with a 150 sqm private terrace and 360-degree views across the London skyline.

What About Wellness?

The St Regis London will have two dedicated wellness suites, each with a plunge pool and sauna and space for personalised treatments, plus a fully-equipped gym. It will reportedly be modest by five-star spa standards, but in keeping with the hotel’s positioning as residential rather than resort property.

What’s The Story?

It’s the first St Regis in London, in a year in which Mayfair has had several other headline openings. The New York chef double and art collection are sure to be a draw once the doors open in the autumn. The signature St Regis Butler Service is likely to be a hit with fans of St Regis hotels, too.
