Hotel Review: The Ritz‑Carlton, Amman – Jordan
STAY
From its perch on Amman’s Fifth Circle, the Ritz-Carlton unfolds over 193 rooms and 34 suites. Inside, there’s a glamour to the public spaces, while the guest rooms feel more pared back with spacious layouts dressed in rich walnut timber, brushed brass, marble details and warm tones with hints of blue.
All rooms boast walk-in wardrobes, Diptyque bath amenities and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the layered hills of Amman, while higher room categories offer wider perspectives and additional living spaces. For longer stays, the Grand Skyline Suite is the one to book – aptly named for the sweeping views from its private terrace and its welcoming residential flow.
For an elevated, quieter experience, the Club Level rooms and suites offer exclusive access to the Club Lounge, a discreet space open 24 hours a day with a dedicated check-in, complimentary pressing and a generous rotation of food and non-alcoholic drinks served throughout the day, from late breakfasts to evening bites and sweet nightcaps.
DO
Set along Amman’s Fifth Circle, The Ritz-Carlton is well positioned for exploring the city’s layered history and growing arts and café culture. Nearby is the Amman Citadel – one of the most important archeological sites in Jordan – not only notable for its sweeping 360-degree city views but also for being one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited places, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Bronze Age, that tells the story of the region’s layered heritage.
Rainbow Street, meanwhile, with its cafés and souvenir shops, is a 10-minute drive away. Also close by are vibrant neighbourhoods like Al Weibdeh in downtown Amman which offers a more creative, local vibe, blending historical charm with modern city life. One of the oldest districts in the city, here a diverse crowd of expats, locals, tourists mingle amongst coffee shops by day and buzzing restaurants and bars long into the night.
Further afield, the ancient Roman ruins of Jerash are around an hour’s drive away, while the Dead Sea can be reached in just over 45 minutes, making both an easy day trip to explore Jordan’s mixture of history, culture and landscape.
Back at the hotel, there’s a full-service ESPA spa, a heated indoor pool and a modern fitness centre on the second floor, which connects directly to the outdoor pool deck. Meanwhile the concierge team is always on hand to assist with bookings and local excursions.
EAT
Dining at The Ritz‑Carlton, Amman is varied and well executed. On the top floor, Roberto’s is a polished Italian restaurant and lounge with skyline views and a glossy, sculptural interior. It’s the city’s go-to for special occasions, with standout dishes like beef tartare with anchovy mayonnaise or house-made tagliolini with butter and black truffle.
Downstairs, Ambros is the all-day dining venue, set across a light-filled space that opens to the terrace, where breakfasts and weekend brunches include everything from za’atar croissants to made-to-order eggs. Sarab Garden serves mezze and grilled meats outdoors when the weather allows, and the Lobby Lounge is where guests gather for Arabic coffee and afternoon sweets.
Tucked within the hotel, Kenz is a relaxed spot and a solid stop for hearty Lebanese favourites from smokey baba ghanoush and shawarmas to manakish fresh from the oven.
THE FINAL WORD
The Ritz‑Carlton, Amman doesn’t rewrite the city’s hotel scene. But with its calm confidence, elevated dining and far-reaching views, it’s a strong addition to the capital’s luxury offering.
