These are the bob trends we’re going to see everywhere this autumn
A new season calls for a new look – and where better to start than a fresh cut? And if you’re looking for inspiration, start with one of these major autumn bob trends for 2025.
Why Are Bob Haircuts Still So Popular In 2025?
If there’s one cut you can count on to stand the test of time, it’s a bob. Where trends come and go, the bob offers a classic look that can be tweaked, updated and elevated to suit – making it one of the most versatile hairstyles to come out of the salon. ‘Bobs have stayed at the forefront of hair trends because they’re so adaptable,’ confirms Jason Collier, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Studio23. ‘Whether you prefer a blunt, polished look, a textured, lived-in style, or something playful like flipped ends, there’s a version that works for everyone.
‘They flatter a wide range of face shapes and hair types, and they strike that sweet spot between being low-maintenance and high-impact,’ he continues. ‘It’s also a cut that evolves with fashion cycles, which means it always feels relevant and modern rather than dated.’
What Makes It A Popular Choice For Autumn?
And while we’ve just seen a summer full of fresh bob ideas, stylists are adamant that the cut will remain popular throughout the colder month. ‘Autumn is a season of layering, and shorter styles like the bob fit well with this approach,’ emphasises Suzie McGill, Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International. ‘The length sits neatly with scarves and collars, and it has enough versatility to be worn sleek on some days and softer or more textured on others. The bob also pairs naturally with the more muted, effortless feel of autumn styling.’
But what are the biggest bob trends for autumn 2025? These are the cuts salon experts have on their radar:
All The Major Bob Trends For Autumn 2025
1. French Bob
An enduring favourite for 2025, stylist forecast that the French bob will continue its reign in the salon this season. ‘The French bob, as worn by Sofia Richie, is a shorter, chin-length style that is often paired with a natural wave or a soft, blunt edge,’ Suzie says of the cut. ‘It has an understated appeal and works particularly well styled simply, whether tucked behind the ear or left loose. The length draws attention to the jawline and cheekbones, and the finish can be kept minimal. This cut feels especially well-suited to autumn as it complements the season’s relaxed textures.’

2. Bixie
Growing out a sculpted crop? Lucky for you, the bixie is back in fashion this season. ‘The bixie, sitting between a bob and a pixie cut, has grown in popularity for its balance of sharpness and ease,’ notes Suzie. ‘Shorter at the back and sides but with enough length through the top and front to style in different ways, it gives the feel of a shorter crop while still offering versatility. The bixie has a playful edge but remains wearable and practical, especially in the cooler months when shorter lengths are easy to maintain.’

3. Lived-In Lob
More relaxed styles are also having a moment this autumn, says Suzie. Example A: the lived-in lob. ‘The lived-in lob is a longer bob that sits around the collarbone, styled to feel natural and effortless rather than overly precise,’ the stylist explains. ‘Soft layers or gentle waves give movement and texture. It is particularly suited to autumn, as the relaxed shape complements seasonal textures and clothing layers. This cut frames the face softly and can be worn straight, wavy, or tucked behind the ears, making it a versatile option that is both low-maintenance and stylish.’

4. Faux Bob
And if you’re not ready to brave the cut, you can always fake (and, maybe later, make it). ‘The faux bob is a simple way of creating the look of shorter hair without making a permanent change,’ says Suzie. ‘By carefully tucking or pinning the ends under, longer hair can be made to sit like a bob, which can then be worn smooth or with a softer, more natural finish. It’s a style that works well for autumn, as it gives the impression of a shorter cut that sits neatly with scarves and collars, while still allowing the option of wearing hair long on other days.’

5. Breeze Bob
Another low maintenance pick from the salon is the breeze bob. ‘This is one of my favourite cuts for autumn,’ says Jason, ‘it just feels effortlessly chic – and doesn’t require all the effort of intense styling. Cut just above the shoulders, it’s especially flattering on those with naturally wavy hair as it enhances the hair’s natural texture. To style, I recommend adding gentle, undone waves with a large-barrel tong or simply scrunch-drying for a breezy, lived-in finish that feels youthful and modern. For those who aren’t quite ready to commit to a bob, asking your stylist for long layers will still create that breezy, effortless movement, giving your hair natural body and flow.’

6. Micro Bob
And for something with impact: ‘For those who prefer something sharper, the micro bob is a huge trend this autumn,’ notes Jason. ‘It’s all about precision and polish. A chin-length cut that instantly makes a statement while still being surprisingly wearable. This style works brilliantly with straight hair but can also be adapted with a bit of wave for a softer finish. What I love most is that it gives an instant ‘fashion edge’ and pairs beautifully with high-neck knits and tailored coats, the perfect contrast for the colder months. Maintenance-wise, it’s simple. Regular trims to keep that clean line, and a shine spray or smoothing serum to enhance the cut’s sleekness.’

7. Sharp Box Bob
In a similar vein, Neale Rodger, Style Director at STIL Salon, predicts the classic box bob will be back on our radars this season – with a much sharper look. ‘This is the bold, jaw-skimming cut that feels like the power suit of hair,’ he explains. ‘It’s crisp, chic and makes a statement without you having to try too hard. Leslie Bibb turned heads at the 2025 Emmys with her razor-sharp version, while Pamela Anderson brought her own twist at this year’s Met Gala, pairing a chin-length bob with micro bangs and a subtle flip.’

8. Luxe Italian Bob
Another familiar favourite, expect ultra luxe renditions of the Italian bob making an autumnal comeback. ‘The Italian bob is all about soft volume, effortless movement and that “just stepped out of a Milan café” energy,’ Neale adds. ‘Elsa Hosk’s version is a masterclass in this look, and I think it’s easy to see why it’s catching on – it’s chic but not fussy. Zendaya and Hailey Bieber have both dabbled too, proving it’s a style that works across different fashion moods and red-carpet moments.’

9. Bob & Fringe Combo
And if you want to quickly elevate your bob this season, Neale suggests a fresh set of bangs. ‘I think adding a fringe gives a bob a whole new personality,’ he tells C&TH. ‘Curtain bangs feel soft and romantic, blunt bangs are bold and high-fashion, and bottleneck bangs are the cool-girl middle ground.
‘Lily Collins has worn her bob with sharp, straight-across bangs previously, while Gabrielle Union’s soft, side-swept fringe at the NAACP Image Awards earlier this year, blended seamlessly into her short bob and showed how versatile and flattering this style can be,’ the stylist adds. ‘Taylor LaShae’s iconic French bob also works perfectly with her blunt bangs, styled with a natural, tousled texture.’

10. Glossy Midi Bob
There’s also plenty of partying to be had this autumn – which may call for an elevated take on the short hairstyle. Cue: the glossy midi bob. ‘Sitting just on or past the shoulders, the midi bob is sleek, shiny and effortlessly glamorous,’ says Neale. ‘It’s the perfect cut for showing off autumn’s deeper colour tones like espresso, chestnut or auburn. Chrishell Stause’s recent transformation into a glossy shoulder-skimming bob is a great example of how this length can look both polished and playful.’

11. Shaggy Textured Bob
The shag is (still) trending – and this time, it’s a bob. ‘This cut is relaxed, layered and just the right amount of messy,’ highlights Neale. ‘It has a rock’n’roll edge without losing its sophistication. Think tousled waves, choppy ends and that “I woke up like this” energy. Plenty of celebs are moving away from ultra-sleek styling in favour of this lived-in look, which makes it feel very now.’
