Everyone’s favourite thriller writer is back – and this time he’s in his United States homeland
American writer Harlan Coben has always been successful thanks to his twisty thrillers and jaw-dropping reveals. But the acclaim he would receive from his collaborative television shows with Netflix has been unprecedented. Following the success of his first Netflix series Safe (2018), Coben signed a multi-million-dollar five-year contract with the streaming giant, which promised to bring a whopping 14 of his nail-biting novels to the screen, with Coben serving as executive producer on every single one.

While the most notable examples include Fool Me Once (2024) and Stay Close (2021), the deal has also seen foreign language adaptations of Coben’s books – which are all set in the States – to Netflix. This includes The Woods (2020) in Polish, The Innocent (2021) in Spanish, and Gone for Good (2021) in French. Indeed, Coben’s most successful dramas for Netflix are those not set in the States but re-set here in the UK. Fool Me Once, starring Michelle Keegan, kicked off this trend on New Year’s Day 2024, lifting the action of Coben’s 2016 novel from New York and setting it down in Manchester. Missing You followed exactly a year later, led by Rosalind Eleazar, followed by Run Away another year later, helmed by James Nesbitt.
Fans will be pleased to hear there is another Coben adaptation on the horizon, set to land later this month. This time, however, we are in the States for the first time under Coben’s big Netflix deal. Titled I Will Find You and based on Coben’s 2023 novel of the same name, here’s everything we know so far, plus when we will get to see it.

I Will Find You: Plot, Cast, Release Date & More
I Will Find You is a thriller – but the crime happens years before the series opens. We centre on David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), an incarcerated father serving a life sentence for the muder of his own three-year-old son, Matthew (Ashton Cressman), half a decade ago.
On the outside, his paediatric surgeon of an ex-wife, Cheryl Dreason (Erin Richards), grieves her son’s death, but has worked hard to rebuild her life. On the inside, David swears his innocence to no avail. That is until he receives information that his son may be alive.
Made up of eight-episodes, what ensues is a truth-finding mission that leads David out of prison and into a world of deceit and despair. Once he breaks out – assisted by his best friend, police Sgt. Adam Mackenzie (Jonathan Tucker) – long-buried secrets threaten to unravel everything Cheryl has built.
Watch the trailer below for a taste of the action.
On his hunt for his son, David is assisted by none other than his ex-wife Cheryl’s sister, Rachel Mills (Britt Lower), who visits him in prison to show him a recent photograph that seems to show David’s son alive. A former decorated reporter, her life fell apart after being fired years ago, and she sees this once-in-a-lifetime tip as her ticket back into journalism. As Lower puts it: ‘Rachel has never thought that David was guilty of the crime that he’s imprisoned for. Her curiosity about what actually happened is what sends her on that path.’

As the story spirals, Rachel confides in her ex-boyfriend Hayden (Milo Ventimiglia), who remains a close friend and confidant.
Of course, David’s prison break won’t go unnoticed: the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force in Boston is hot on the case, including Sarah Greer (Logan Browning) and legendary agent Max Williams (Chi McBride), who are intent on doggedly pursuing David – no matter what it costs. Like any good figurative thriller, a few chase sequences will result – including one across the rooftops of a New York apartment complex.

Is It Based On A Book?
I Will Find You is based on Harlan Coben’s 2023 novel of the same name. Intriguingly, however, the novel was penned in tandem with the TV series – a first for Coben. ‘I came to showrunner Robby Hull with this idea, and we brought it to Netflix as a possible TV show while I was writing the novel, which I’ve never done before,’ the author tells Netflix. ‘We shared a vision in how we wanted to tell I Will Find You so it will grip you, and not just grip you and move you, but really get emotional at the end.’
Where Was It Filmed?
I Will Find You is set in New York, but the series was mostly filmed in Toronto, Canada, which is often used as an NYC dupe. Filming was spotted at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus as well as at Kingston Penitentiary, a former maximum security prison close to the US border.
However, some filming took place in New York proper, in and around Washington Square Park, Central Park and Times Square.

Will There Be A Second Season?
Harlan Coben’s series are typically standalone thrillers, so a second season is unlikely. Luckily there are plenty of Coben thrillers to stream afterwards, including Fool Me Once (2024), The Stranger (2020), Stay Close (2021), Safe (2018), Missing You (2025) and more.
Release Date
All eight episodes of I Will Find You will land on Netflix at 8am on Thursday 18 June 2026.
