If you’re struggling to find new TV shows to watch right now, that’s because, well, there aren’t very many of them. It’s a widespread tactic in TV to shunt new releases to the autumn winter season when, with less sunshine for outdoors frolicking, more people will hunker down inside, curl up on the sofa with a blanket, and turn to their beloved TV. From gripping thrillers to teenage romcoms, here are all of the new TV shows still to come in autumn winter 2024.
New TV Coming In Autumn Winter 2024
Pachinko Season 2
Two years after Pachinko debuted on Apple TV, a second season is finally streaming. With parallel storylines, the show picks up where the season 1 finale left off, following Sunja in Osaka 1945, and her descendant Solomon in Tokyo 1989. The Perfect Couple
Netflix is kicking off the autumn season with a real must-watch series. Starring Nicole Kidman, Eve Hewson, Dakota Fanning and plenty more recognisable faces, The Perfect Couple whisks us off to the dollhouse town of Nantucket for some end-of-summer sunshine and a no-expense-spared wedding. Amelia (Hewson) is besotted with her dream man Benji (Billy Howle), but when she wakes up on the morning of their wedding, it’s not a perfect start to what is supposed to be the perfect day. Joan
Sophie Turner is transformed into Britain’s most notorious diamond thief in ITV’s new six-part drama, Joan, based on the life of Joan Hannington. Backdropped by the vibrant ‘80s, the series opens with Joan in her twenties, fiery and uncompromising, yet deeply scarred and vulnerable. We watch as Joan transforms into a notorious thief, moving through the world under various guises on a high-stakes journey that challenges her every limit. Read more about what to expect here.

The Penguin
Fans of Matt Reeves’ recent gothic The Batman (2022; starring Robert Pattinson with some incredible eye makeup) shouldn’t miss The Penguin, a spin off from DC Studios centred on the famous villain (played by Colin Farrell). The series is set one week after the 2022 film, tracing the rise of Oz Cobb to the infamous Penguin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld. It’s the perfect watch to tide fans over ahead of the release of The Batman – Part II in October 2026.

The Great British Bake Off Series 15
Our favourite cosy competition series will return once more this autumn, pitting 12 amateur bakers against one another to complete a series of baking challenges. Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will return alongside presenters Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, and we’re expecting plenty of masterpieces, muck ups and meltdowns. Here’s everything we know so far.

Heartstopper Season 3
The cold is no issue when we’re soothed by the warm fuzzy feelings Heartstopper gives us – and the much anticipated third season is set to land on our TV screens this autumn. Picking up where season 2 left us in summer 2023, we will be reunited with Nick and Charlie as the summer holidays are racing to an end and a new school year looms on the horizon. As the teenagers grapple with love and life, navigating social events and university choices, they – and their friends around them – must learn to lean on those they love when things don’t quite go to plan.

The Diplomat Season 2
The first season of The Diplomat was a bit of a slow-burner, but gradually gathered a cult following after launching on Netflix in 2023. Season 2 will return to centre on Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), a seasoned foreign officer navigating rocky relations between the US and UK – all while trying to save her marriage with fellow career diplomat Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).

Industry Season 3
For fans of Succession, Industry is a gripping lovechild from the BBC and HBO, following a crop of fresh faced employees at an investment bank in London. Now in its third season, expect plenty more scandal, intrigue, sex, drugs and more, with newcomers Kit Harington and Sarah Goldberg shaking things up even more.

Sweetpea
The vengeful women genre keeps moving from strength to strength – and Sweetpea is not to be missed this autumn. Centred on Rhiannon (Ella Purnell, hot off her starring role in Fallout), it’s being described as a ‘coming of rage’ story as we see a quiet wallflower undergo an intoxicating transformation – with deadly consequences. The eight-part series is based on CJ Skuse’s 2017 novel of the same name, and the adaptation boasts an exciting cast of British talent, including Nicôle Lecky, Jon Pointing, Calam Lynch and Leah Harvey.

Portrait Artist Of The Year Series 11
Sky Arts’ flagship series is also pegged to return to our TV screens this autumn, having been filmed at Battersea Arts Centre in Spring. An annual competition hosted by Sky Arts, Portrait Artist of the Year searches for frsh new talent from across the UK, putting contestants’ portraiture skills to the test with a variety of sitters against different backdrops. The Day Of The Jackal
It’s the TV treatment for this iconic thriller, with decorated actor Eddie Redmayne snapping up the title role. The Jackal is an unrivalled, elusive lone assassin in competition with Biana (Lashana Lynch), a tenacious MI6 agent in a relentless global pursuit to catch him. Across 10 episodes, expect a refreshing adaptation of Frederick Forsyth’s novel of the same name from the producers of Downton Abbey and The Last Kingdom, 51 years after the film adaptation was first released.

Bad Sisters Season 2
This hit Irish comedy is back for another round. Bad Sisters follows the five Garvey sisters, who fid themselves at the centre of a life insurance investigation after one of their husbands – the abusive and controlling John Paul – shows up dead. Through a series of flashbacks, we learn which sister ultimately did the gruesome deed, while dedicated investigators inch closer to the truth in the present day. Created by star Sharon Horgan, there was never supposed to be a second season, but she ‘was interested in what would happen to these women next’. And we’re about to find out, flashing forwards two years after the death of John: past truths will resurface, thrusting the sisters back into the spotlight, forcing them to reconsider exactly who they can trust.
