Bad Sisters Season 2: Plot, Cast, Release Date
What’s Bad Sisters About?
If you’re here, no doubt you’ve already devoured season one of the Irish dark comedy, but here’s a quick refresher. The series follows the five Garvey sisters (Eva, Grace, Ursula, Bibi and Becka) who find themselves at the centre of a life insurance investigation following the death of one of their abusive and controlling husbands, John Paul.
We learn he’s dead from the get-go, and then the series goes back in time, watching four of the sisters plot his murder as revenge for the way they’ve treated Grace (Anne-Marie Duff). A series of failed murder attempts ensue – until, in the final episode, we learn who eventually did the deed. Alongside these flashbacks, the series cuts to the present day, when two insurance agents are on a mission to discover the truth about John Paul’s death, as paying out the claim would result in their bankruptcy.
What Will Happen In Season 2?
The series was originally intended as a one off, but Horgan decided to keep the story going. ‘I had no intention of doing any more, but while we were on set I kept thinking of this one idea that could be a possible second season,’ she told The Radio Times. ‘The first series did have a lovely end, but I think when you kill a man, when you put yourself through that – and there were five of them in it – life is going to change. You don’t just dust yourself off and get on with your life. I was interested in what would happen to these women next. And we’ll find out.’
Season 2 is set two years after the death of John Paul. The official synopsis reads: ‘The close-knit Garvey sisters may have moved on but when past truths resurface, the ladies are thrust back into the spotlight, suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed and the sisters are forced to work out who they can trust’.
The first look image also reveals some clues, showing the sisters gathered at what looks like a wedding setting. Intriguingly, it appears that the bride is Grace, judging from her white dress.
Who Is In The Cast?
Many original cast members will be reprising their roles. All the Garvey sisters will be back: alongside Horgan as Eva, there’s Anne-Marie Duff as Grace, Sarah Greene as Bibi, Eva Birthistle as Ursula and Eve Hewson as Becka. Daryl McCormack will also return as Matthew Calaffin, one of the life insurance investigators, who became romantically involved with Becka. Michael Smiley will also be returning as Roger Muldoon, Grace’s neighbour.
There will be some new faces too. Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) will be joining the cast, alongside Owen McDonnell (Killing Eve), Thaddea Graham (Sex Education), Barry Ward (The Capture) and Yasmine Akram (Sherlock).
What Is The Release Date?
Bad Sisters series two will premiere on Apple TV+ with two episodes on 13 November 2024, with episodes being released weekly until Christmas Day.
