Make like Murray on these superb London courts
Caught a case of tennis fever? We’ve heard this particular infection is rife across the capital, especially down in SW19. Similarly afflicted? These top London tennis clubs and courts are the antidote…
Holland Park Lawn Tennis Club
Branded one of London’s finest private (tennis) clubs, Holland Park Lawn Tennis Club dates back to 1875 when the club was first established as a lawn tennis, cycling, croquet and pleasure ground. Situated on Addison Road in the leafy West London enclave of Holland Park, the historic clubhouse was originally part of a mansion built for the 3rd Lord Holland’s eldest son in 1827. Today, the club – which boasts eight courts (five artificial, three grass), a lounge, bar and terrace with court views – comprises approximately 850 members. A reputable club, American players Billie Jean King and Jimmy Connors trained on the courts ahead of Wimbledon.

All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, Wimbledon
Home to the world’s oldest tennis tournament, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is one of the most prestigious private tennis clubs with just 565 members as of 2026. This includes 375 full and life members, as well as a number of honourary members and around 100 temporary members (who need the support of four full members to join); every Singles champion at Wimbledon automatically becomes an honorary member and is awarded a small badge for entry. The Duchess of Cambridge is the club’s patron, and apparently there’s a thousand-full waiting list. Determined to make the cut? We suggest you start executing your serves.
- Where? Church Rd, London SW19 5AG

Queen’s Club, Kensington
You’ll notice this one from the telly, too. Queen’s Tennis takes place a week ahead of Wimbledon, a tournament similarly best known for the club it is hosted by. Home to some of the world’s very best grass court facilities, membership here is similarly elite, held by champion tennis players or those who managed to wrangle the backing of three existing members (one proposer, two seconders). But it’s not just grass: Queen’s is home to shale, plexi and artificial grass courts, too. On site there is also a clubhouse, restaurant, cafe and museum.
- Where? Palliser Road, London W14 9EQ
- Price: £250 joining fee, then an annual fee agreed upon application; obscure.
