Once a supplier to Borough Market, this award-winning garden centre hosts summer strawberry picking, but is taken over by its annual spook-tastic Pumpkin Parade come October. This luxury farm hotel in Hertfordshire is getting an autumnal refresh this season, transforming into a pumpkin patch paradise for one very special Halloween weekend. A 700-acre working farm complete with cosy huts, field-to-fork dining, wellness classes and live music, families are invited to wander through the fields by Tewin Water, choose their favourite pumpkin from the patch and thaw frosty fingers with hot drinks, all just a 30 minute train ride from London.

Cammas Hall Farm, Hertfordshire

Cammas’ huge, picturesque fields are perfect for some autumnal photography. Add to that a pumpkin patch fit to burst with more than 50 varieties of pumpkin and squash of all shapes and sizes, plus a maize maze, tea room with homemade cakes and spooky tunnels to meander through and you’ve got the perfect day out. Join in on the fun at Secretts’ hallowed pumpkin week, so popular that over 30,000 pumpkins were harvested at the event in 2022. Taking place on selected dates from 19–30 October, the week involves pumpkin pickin’ trailer rides, plenty of fun for the kids and a delicious pumpkin themed menu including award winning Black Barn Sausages and pumpkin cakes.

Hewitts Farm, Kent

Venture into green Kent to enjoy Hewitts, a family-run pick-your-own farm spanning 78 acres, with courgettes and apples also ripe for picking. Pumpkin picking usually commences on 1 October and no tickets are required – just turn up. While you’re there, pay a visit to the farm shop to shop the best of fresh local produce, including free-range chicken and duck eggs.

Cobbs Farm, Essex

This family-run, working farm opens its gates for just a few days every autumn, especially for the pumpkin-loving public. Whether you’re looking for the perfect carving pumpkin for Halloween or a smaller squash to rustle up a tasty autumnal dinner with, Cobbs has plenty of natural, vine-grown pumpkins to choose from. If you’re not sure yours looks good enough to eat, simply ask one of the team who are happy to help advise on the best varieties to cook with.

With two pumpkin patches to their name, Foxes Farm knows a thing or two about autumnal PYO. It’s a real family atmosphere here, with a corn maze to explore, a large play area, photo opps galore (think haybales, vintage tractors and more) and a huge field in which to secure the perfect pumpkin. There’s also street food and a bar on site, so you’ll be fed, watered and entertained all day long.

Priory Farm is putting on a line up exciting enough to get even the most fed up members of the family to rally this autumn. Crockford Bridge Farm, Surrey

Crockford Bridge Farm occupies around 80 acres of green belt land in West Surrey. The farm is one of the oldest continually farmed farms in Surrey and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Each year it hosts a dedicated Pumpkin Festival, featuring pumpkin carving, seasonal art displays, street food, a pop-up outdoor cinema and activities for little ones. Head down this year to enjoy fun photo opportunities, quirky installations, entry into the Avant Garden (with seats, a bar, garden games and toilets), and street food at the weekend.

You’ll fine one of the nation’s most famous pumpkin patches in the Cotswolds and complete with unbeatable countryside views. Cotswold Farm Park is also home to animals, interactive exhibits, a maize maze, carving classes and a cafe serving locally sourced seasonal dish, while tractor rides trundle across the farm, too.
