Whisky cocktail at Kwant

Japanese Whisky Bar Takeovers

A whole host of bars across the capital are adding cocktails to their menus using House of Suntory’s Hibiki Japanese Harmony whisky. This initiative ties in with the return of the Japanese Grand Sumo Tournament to London, which is back for the first time in 34 years. Drinks are designed to reflect Japanese ritual and artistry in different ways: the esteemed Kwãnt in Mayfair is serving the Green Mawashi, a carbonated highball made with agave, while Nipperkin’s Tea & Harmony is a nod to the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, made with frozen Hibiki whisky.

To tie in with the V&A’s Marie Antoinette exhibition, the hotel is joining forces with the shoe designer to create a Queen-themed cakes and cocktails menu. Available in the pink-hued Snug, the offering includes drinks like The Versailles Spritz (a blend of Grey Goose Vodka, Lillet Blanc and Provence rosé) and the Manolo’s Martini (a twist on the classic featuring orange blossom – a nod to Marie Antoinette’s daily ritual of bathing in orange blossom scented water). Mid-Autumn menu at Canton Blue

Mid-Autumn Festival At The Peninsula London

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a harvest festival which falls on the eighth month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Traditionally, it’s marked by eating mooncakes: round, symbolic pastries made with a variety of fillings. These have long been a tradition at The Peninsula Hotels, first perfected at the Hong Kong location in 1986, and crafted to perfection with a buttery golden crust and custard centre. Available to buy at the London hotel, this year’s collection includes flavours like lotus seed paste and tea-infused varieties, as well as mini chocolate egg custard mooncakes. Meanwhile, in the hotel’s Canton Blue restaurant, a six-course tasting menu is on offer featuring dishes like steamed lobster dumplings and sautéed Atlantic king prawns with salted egg-yolk (with mooncakes for dessert, of course).
