February 2024: New London Restaurants To Have On Your Radar
Morchella, Clerkenwell
Love Perilla in Newington Green? You’re in luck: a second venture from the duo behind it is on its way. Founders Ben Marks and Matthew Emmerson have teamed up with Great British Menu alumni Daniel Fletcher to launch Morchella, a restaurant and wine bar in Exmouth Market. One of the buzziest new London restaurants for February 2024, the menu will focus on Mediterranean cuisine, with dishes like octopus luciana, salt baked poussin, and hake with sobrassada sauce. Like Perilla, Morchella will have a relaxed, neighbourhood feel, with produce sourced from British farmers and fishers alongside wines from names like Dynamic Vines and Newcomers.

Singapulah, Chinatown
Singaporean restaurateur Ellen Chew helms a number of food ventures in London, including restaurant Raya Sayang and Arome Bakery in Covent Garden. And this February, she’s launching another: Singapulah, designed to bring the street food culture of Singapore to London. Spread across three floors on Shaftesbury Avenue, the eatery will showcase a variety of flavours from Chew’s hometown, showcasing the best Singaporean producers. On the menu you’ll find hero dishes like pork noodle dish bak chor mee, Singapore laksa and chilli fishballs, alongside a selection of dim sum, plus cocktails featuring Southeast Asian-inspired flavours.

Bellazul, Marylebone
Marylebone is a hotspot for cosy neighbourhood restaurants; the latest addition is Bellazul, opening on Blandford Street this February. Designed to transport diners to the sun-kissed shores of the Med, the eatery will be a relaxed spot with bright and airy interiors. The kitchen is being helmed by head chef Simone Serafini (previously at Cecconi’s), with dishes inspired by everywhere from Greece to Italy, alongside wines from across the Mediterranean.

Camille, Borough Market
The founders of Soho’s acclaimed Ducksoup, Claire Lattin and Tom Hill, are back with a new restaurant: Camille. Opening in mid-February on Stoney Street in Borough Market, the eatery will take inspiration from French bistro dining, with a focus on the rustic, provenance-led cooking Lattin and Hill have become known for. Naturally, lots of the ingredients will come from Borough Market, with highlights such as cep stuffed chicken wig, veal sweetbreads with Montpellier butter, confit leeks and Lincolnshire poacher, and a fennel and brown butter custard tart, alongside low-intervention and biodynamic French wines. And during the summer months, there will be an outdoor terrace where guests can dine al fresco.

Trejo’s Tacos, Notting Hill
You might know him for his roles in films like Con Air and Spy Kids, but Hollywood star Danny Trejo has another string to his bow: a taco restaurant in LA, Trejo’s Tacos. And this February, he’s opening his first UK branch in London’s Notting Hill. Launching within a two-storey, 3,000 sq. ft space, the eatery will focus on a healthier twist on Mexican fare, from breakfast burritos to a wide range of different tacos, including beef brisket, mushroom and blackened salmon. The site will also have two cocktail bars focusing on tequila and mezcal concoctions, with DJs keeping things lively. ‘I’m so ready to bring Trejo’s Tacos to London,’ said Trejo. ‘I love the creativity that the city inspires, and I can’t think of a better place to launch internationally than with our friends in London. I’m excited that we found the perfect time and team to bring Trejo’s to its second home.’
Freak Scene Sushi and Robata, Balham
Following the success of its Parsons Green outpost, Freak Scene is coming to Balham – this time, with a focus on sushi and robata dishes. The brainchild of ex-Nobu chef Scott Hallsworth, the eatery will have a similar vibe to its Fulham sibling, but with outside seating and a downstairs lounge well-suited to private events and cocktail evenings. On the menu you’ll find small plates like crispy lamb ribs, and salt-grilled mackerel, as well as sushi tacos, sashimi, nigiri and rolls, plus a selection of sake curated by expert Oliver Hilton-Johnson of Tengu Sake. ‘I’ve selfishly been really keen to launch in Balham for a while because it’s where I live but it’s also super lively and fast becoming a brilliant food hub for the greater area,’ said Hallsworth.

Mistress, Mayfair
Mayfair is a hub for glitzy restaurants – but there’s always room for one more. New to the neighbourhood this February is Mistress, a Parisian-inspired eatery nestled beneath street level on St. James Street. With its plush velvet and tones of pink and red, it will have an exclusive, speakeasy-style feel, drawing on the old-school members’ clubs of Mayfair, but this time with a feminine focus, hence the name. The food offering will be suitably chic, with a focus on French classics: lobster rolls, oysters, fillet mignon, caviar and truffle, alongside a roaming champagne trolley and selection of cocktails.
