Move over Pret: Bristol's cult favourite is London's new hype spot

Any foodies who have visited Bristol will know the name Sandwich Sandwich. Locals have been getting their sarnie fix at the beloved spot for over 10 years, but last year the group expanded to London. The first site opened in the City near St Paul’s, followed by a second branch nearby, and now we have word that a third is soon to arrive in Tottenham Court Road.
Sandwich Sandwich: What’s The Story?
The story of this family-run business began in 2010, when Cotham Sandwich Co. opened on Cotham Road South. Two years later, this became Sandwich Sandwich, a takeaway shop doing pretty much what it says on the tin: selling giant, hearty sandwiches with fillings aplenty.
Since then, it has developed into one of Bristol’s cult food spots, picking up a handful of awards along the way including Restaurant of the Year UK by Uber Eats. Nowadays, there are five outposts across Bristol: Baldwin Street (the flagship), Park Row and Queens Road, and this month the founders have made their first foray into London with a new branch on Gresham Street. The launch was partly funded by the £100k grant they received after being named Uber Eats Restaurant of the Year 2023.
Posting on Instagram, co-owner Josh Kleiner said: ‘When my dad first opened his small sandwich shop in Bristol 12 years ago, he could never have imagined that we would be bringing it to London. Frankly, I can’t believe this is happening, and I think this is what people would normally describe as a “pinch-me” moment.’

In summer 2024, the first branch opened on London’s Gresham Street, with the second following in March this year, also located in the City. The new Tottenham Court Road branch will launch in October 2025. ‘We said we’d bring our sandwiches to as many Londoners as possible – and Tottenham Court Road is a huge step towards that,’ said founder Nick Kleiner. ‘This site has some of the highest footfall in London, and we can’t wait to share our sandwiches – and our new breakfast – with a whole new part of the city.’
‘We want to arrive at Tottenham Court Road in true Sandwich sandwich style,’ said Nick’s son Josh, head of marketing for Sandwich Sandwich. ‘If that means giving away 1,000 free sandwiches to get Londoners excited, then that’s exactly what we’ll do. That’s if the city of London allow us to cause that level of carnage.’
What’s On The Menu?
On the menu you’ll find an array of freshly made sandwiches, made with locally sourced ingredients, with a choice of either white or granary bread. Highlights include:
- Posh ham and cheese: pulled ham hock, grated mature cheddar, garlic and parmesan soft cheese, fresh parsley & homemade piccalilli
- Spanish chicken: roast chicken, chorizo oil and garlic soft cheese, chimichurri mayo, sliced chorizo, tomato and spinach
- Rare roast beef: overnight roasted sirloin of beef, rocket, tomato, red onion, horseradish mayo and onion jam
- Hoi sin pulled pork: sticky hoisin pulled pork, cucumber, spring onion and iceberg lettuce
- Chicken Kyiv: breaded chicken, pulled bacon, garlic, parmesan, herby soft cheese, caramelised red onion jam, crunchy iceberg and cucumber
- Club: roast chicken, thick-cut back bacon, soft-boiled egg mayo, cucumber, tomato and rocket
Sandwiches aren’t the only thing on the menu though: a selection of flatbreads are also on offer, alongside salad boxes. The cafe also serves breakfast, plus some popular sides, like scotch eggs and sausage rolls.
