Fastest-Growing Travel Spots For 2027
South Lake Tahoe, California, US
The destination which has seen the largest increase in search volume year-on-year (up 195 percent) is South Lake Tahoe, a city in the Lake Tahoe region of California. Home to North America’s largest alpine lake and the towering granite peaks of the Sierra Nevada, the region is particularly popular for outdoorsy types, with lots to offer year-round. During the winter, you can ski and snowboard at resorts like Sierra-at-Tahoe, Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Heavenly Ski Resort; in the summer it’s all about hiking, kayaking and paddleboarding on the lake.

Hyogo, Japan
Travel to Japan has soared in recent years, with data from the Japanese National Tourism Organisation showing that 483,157 British tourists visited the country in 2025 – up 24.8 percent on 2024. And according to Expedia, there’s an especially big surge in interest surrounding Hyogo, the capital city of Hyōgo Prefecture nestled between the central and western regions of Honshu (Japan’s main island), which has seen a 95 percent increase in searches year-on-year. One of its most famous sites is Himeji Castle – the largest castle in modern Japan – but the mountainside ruins of Takeda Castle, known as Japan’s Machu Picchu, is also worth a visit. Hyogo is also famed for its kobe beef, as well as its hot spring resort towns.
Punta del Este, Uruguay
If you love places like Ibiza and Marbella but fancy going a little further for your next adventure, consider a trip to Punta del Este. Often billed as the St Tropez of Uruguay, the glamorous coastal city has seen a 65 percent spike in search volume this year. The region is known for its beaches, like Playa Mansa (best for swimming and sunsets) and Playa Brava, a popular spot for surfing – also known for its La Mano en la Arena landmark, a gigantic hand protruding from the white sands. Punta del Este is beloved for its buzzing nightlife scene too, particularly during the months of December, January and early February, when South Americans flock there for the summer season (for a quieter visit, go in March when the weather is still warm but the crowds have diminished).

Sedona, Arizona, US
Expedia has seen a 55 percent increase in searches for Sedona, a desert town in Arizona known for its eye-catching red sandstone formations. Another one for travellers with a love for the outdoors, there are plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails – plus the remoteness of the area means it’s a hotspot for stargazing. Sedona is also known as a place of healing and spiritual renewal thanks to its energy ‘vortexes’: swirling centres of the earth’s energy believed to enhance meditation and healing, so you’ll find lots of wellness centres specialising in reiki, crystal therapy and sound baths.
Busan, South Korea
When you picture South Korea it’s likely the frenetic capital of Seoul that springs to mind. But the second-largest city, Busan, is becoming increasingly popular with travellers – with Expedia reporting a 50 percent climb in searches year-on-year. Often nicknamed the Miami of South Korea, the region boasts the same rich cultural heritage of Seoul, but with the added pull of beautiful beaches. Explore the vibrant village of Gamcheon, known for its brightly painted houses and labyrinthine alleys, go walking in Taejongdae Resort Park, and visit the Jagalchi Fish Market – Asia’s largest seafood market.

Holbox, Mexico
Forget overpriced Tulum: in-the-know travellers are living out their Mexican beach getaway dreams in Isla Holbox, a car-free island off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. To get there, it’s a two-hour shuttle to Chiquilá from Cancun, followed by a ferry – but once there, you’ll be rewarded with a true island paradise escape. Think white-sand beaches studded with over-water hammocks and towering palm trees. Days here are spent spotting pink flamingos in the shallow sandbars of Punta Mosquito, swimming in crystal-clear cenotes and sipping sunset margaritas at one of the island’s cheep and cheerful taquerias.

Perugia, Italy
The hottest Italian destination for 2027? Perugia, Umbria’s hilltop capital. Despite its buzzing art scene and rich history, the region has long been somewhat overlooked – but Expedia’s report suggests travellers are beginning to recognise its charms, with a 35 percent increase in year-on-year searches. The 14th-century Palazzo Baldeschi al Corso houses an impressive collection of Renaissance ceramics, while the Palazzo dei Priori houses masterpieces by hometown artist Pietro Perugino. Perugia is also renowned for its chocolate, being the birthplace of the Bacio Perugina praline – there are chocolate shops all over town, and every October a dedicated chocolate festival takes over the city.
The Tweed, NSW, Australia
Wedged between two of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations, Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, sits the underrated east coast region of the Tweed. Interest in the destination is up 35 percent over the past year, with travellers drawn in by the promise of golden beaches, hinterland villages and scenic nature trails. Highlights include swimming with sea turtles at Cook Island, browsing works from Australian painter Margaret Olley at the Tweed Regional Art Gallery, kayaking through the Rous River Canoe Trail, and seeing the ancient basalt rock formations at Fingal Head Beach.
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada
In Canada, Expedia has noticed a rise in interest surrounding Niagara-on-the-Lake, a historic town in southern Ontario. With its colonial-style buildings, pretty gardens and horse-drawn carriages, it’s one of the region’s most picturesque towns – the main hub, Queen Street, feels like stepping back in time to a Dickensian village. There’s also a dazzling food and wine scene (this is Canada’s top grape-growing area), and for nine months throughout the year the Shaw Festival Theatre – specialising in plays written by Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw – offers a programme of musicals, comedies, dramas and more.

Chichester, UK
Here on UK soil, Expedia identified the market town of Chichester as a trending destination for 2027 (searches are up 30 percent). The only city in West Sussex, it offers plenty for history buffs: walk the City Walls (the most intact Roman walls in southern England), and see the majestic Chichester Cathedral – famed for its detached 15th century bell tower. Culture vultures, meanwhile, can explore Pallant House Gallery and catch a show at the esteemed Chichester Festival Theatre.
