What Are Watermelon Nails?

We’re no stranger to a food-themed beauty trend – glazed donut nails, butter skin and latte makeup are just a few recent favourites – and so, when watermelon nails entered the chat, we knew it would be an instant hit. Putting the juicy summer fruit in the spotlight, this mani sees nail beds transform into juicy watermelon slices through a combination of pink and green colour palettes, playful French manicures and artfully placed pips.

The options for watermelon nails are numerous, but one we’ve fallen in love with is the watermelon jello mani. This take on the look combines the glossy, gelatinous appearance of jelly nails with the fruity flair of a watermelon French mani – and the result is nothing short of a treat.

How To Recreate Watermelon Nails At Home

If you fancy trying your hand at watermelon nails at home, you’re in luck. Here’s how to recreate the look:

  1. Prep your nails by pushing back the cuticles, buffing the nail and filing it down to your preferred shape.
  2. Apply a clear base coat.
  3. Add your base colour – either a full or sheer and glossy pink. Apply in layers, ensuring each layer is dry or properly cured before applying a new one, until satisfied with the colour.
  4. Paint on green French tips. You can either do this freehand or use a sticker to guide your lines. (You can see our step-by-step guide to painting French nails here.)
  5. Use the tip of a thin paintbrush or a dotting tool to create black watermelon seeds.
  6. Once dry, seal everything in with a clear top coat.
