Tim Burton's Netflix mega-hit is back for a second instalment

Tim Burton’s take on The Addams Family was one of the most highly-anticipated Netflix releases of 2022 – and it did not disappoint, becoming the platform’s most-watched title ever in a single week. Starring Jenna Ortega, Luiz Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday, Morticia and Gomez Addams respectively, the reboot manifested as a gothic coming-of-age comedy. And in January 2023, much to fans’ delight, it was revealed that a second season is on the way. Here are the details we have so far.

Wednesday Season 2: Cast, Plot, Potential Release Date

Who Is In The Wednesday Season 2 Cast?

The only cast member featured in the season two announcement was Ortega, but there have been hints about who else might return. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s creators Al Gough and Miles Millar said they hoped future seasons would delve into the relationship between Wednesday and her mother, Morticia, plus her friendship with roommate Enid (Emma Myers).

It’s thought that other cast favourites may return, including Guzmán as Wednesday’s dad, Gomez, Isaac Ordonez as Wednesday’s brother Pugsley, and George Burcea as butler Lurch.

And what about new additions? Well, it’s being reported that Steve Buscemi (Gargo, Reservoir Dogs) will be joining the show for season two, playing the new principal of Nevermore Academy – although this hasn’t yet been confirmed by Netflix.

What Do We Know About The Plot?

We don’t have much intel on the plot just yet. However, at a fan event last year, Myers and her co-stars revealed that season two will introduce a new member of the Addams family, but they didn’t say who. Cousin It, perhaps?

Ortega – who is now an executive producer on the series – also suggested the new season will have a stronger emphasis on horror. Speaking to Laverne Cox on the Emmys red carpet, she said: ‘I’ve received some scripts now for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror. It’s really, really exciting because all throughout the show [Wednesday] never really changes and that’s what’s wonderful about her.’

She added: ‘There’s some really good one-liners and I think everything is bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. I think each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.’

When Will Wednesday Season 2 Come Out?

It’s likely still a little while off. Although the second season was announced in January 2023, production was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. According to Deadline, filming is set to begin in late April 2024 in Ireland, making a change from the first season, which was shot in Romania. In the meantime, you can stream all of the first season now on Netflix.
