The new Art Deco, explained

Happy Pinterest Predicts day to all who celebrate. Every year, the social media platform releases an in-depth report detailing its trend predictions for the year ahead, based on user data from the last 12 months. And this year’s edition does not disappoint – especially when it comes to interior design. From Afrohemian decor to FunHaus design, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into come 2026. But make sure not to miss out on what we’re dubbing the biggest interiors trend of the upcoming year: Neo Deco.

What Is Neo Deco?

Neo Deco, or the new Art Deco, is all about blending the glamorous design hallmarks of the roaring 1920s – geometric shapes, sultry hues, lacquered wood and luxe materials – into the contemporary home.

‘A modern twist on Art Deco, it channels the elegance of the 1920s and 30s into today’s spaces with sleek finishes, bold geometric shapes – from chevrons to fan arches – and gleaming touches of chrome or brass,’ explains Sydney Stanback, Global Head of Trends and Insights at Pinterest. ‘It’s all about drama, personality and a hint of eccentricity, encouraging homeowners to express their individual style through their interiors.’

And in 2026, it’s set to become one of the biggest trends in interior design (Pinterest especially noted a huge uptick in searches for pendant lamps, bar carts, brass and marble finishings). With minimalism slowly giving way to maximalist flair once more, interior designers and trend forecasters alike are noticing a real buzz around opulent, almost over-the-top curation. ‘After years of pared‑back minimalism, one of our Pinterest Predicts 2026 interiors trends is Neo Deco,’ says Sydney. ‘It’s set to bring timeless glamour and theatrical confidence back into people’s homes – hopefully, for good.’

Which Rooms Work Best?

A big and bold interior design trend like this deserves a big stage within the home. ‘Neo Deco works beautifully in living rooms, dining areas, hallways and bedrooms,’ suggests Sydney. ‘This is an aesthetic for those looking to make a statement, so don’t be afraid to put it somewhere that guests will see – and if it starts a conversation, even better.’

How To Get The Look

Pick An Opulent Colour Palette

First of all: refine your palette. As was the case with its predecessor, Neo Deco draws on those rich, seductive hues – think burgundy, emerald green and grape. ‘You want to ground it all with luxe jewel tones,’ emphasises Sydney. ‘Opt for colours that feel rich and inviting, and enclose the space in a way that feels comforting.’

Mix & Match

Play on the contrast between hard and soft textures, says Sydney, as this will give your space depth. ‘When leaning into the Neo Deco look, make sure to mix metals and textures such as velvet with marble,’ she recommends.

Stick To Geometric Patterns

And when it comes to your choice of pattern, there’s only one option: geometric. You’ll want to layer repeating shapes, lines and angles in a way that feels sharp and sleek.

Find A Hero Piece

The key to creating a Neo Deco feature, Sydney tells us, is by starting with one statement item – the room’s talking point – and building from there. ‘Invest in hero pieces like sculptural lighting or oversized mirrors,’ she suggests.

Shop Secondhand

And where exactly should you look for those pieces? At antique stores, charity shops and secondhand markets, of course. ‘I recommend exploring secondhand shops and markets,’ says Sydney. ‘It’s an affordable and sustainable way to tap into the Neo Deco look.’
