We’re Catching Feelings For Hearts On The Runway

What can we say? We're in love

Love is in the air – at least, it is on the runway. Hearts are popping up everywhere this season, leading one of the biggest fashion trends for 2023. Want to know how it landed a place in our wardrobes this SS23? Read on to find out.

Why Is The Fashion World Obsessed With Hearts?

We’re all (literally) wearing our hearts on our sleeves this season. The cute fashion trend sees the modern day symbol of love, in both its geometric and anatomical form, take centre stage in our wardrobe.

But why now? It’s a much-needed splash of fun after a long, grey winter spent indoors, and comes just in time for the lovey-dovey month of February (and the hot sparks of the soon-to-be approaching summer). As younger generations, guided by a love of Y2K nostalgia and dopamine dressing, take the lead on street style trends, we’re expecting to see more and more brands switch over to a more youthful aesthetic. And you know what? We love it.

The Spring/Summer 2023 runway was packed with subtle (and not-so-subtle) nods to the trend, with cut-outs, patches, patterns, sculptural detailing and full-body silhouettes all moulded into the shape of hearts. Leaders of the pack this season include Botter (of water-filled condom glove fame), Victoria Beckham, Acne Studios, Paul & Joe, Nensi Dojaka and Moschino. The SS23 season will just be starting point for this fast-growing trend, so make sure to keep an eye on how it evolves come autumn and winter.

Expect to see hearts decked out in all colours of the rainbow – with a strong preference for romantic shades of red, white and pink – and making a home for themselves on our clothes, shoes, bags and jewellery.

Ready to set hearts aflutter? As always, before you browse the shops for the latest trends, check at home to see if you have something that fits the bill. Re-wearing old clothes is the best way to be sustainable, but if you can’t avoid it then shop consciously at responsible retailers, as well as rental and resale sites.
