Pétrus By Gordon Ramsay
What was once a joint venture between Gordon Ramsay and his (former) friend Marcus Wareing, following the 2008 relocation and relaunch of Pétrus, the pair famously fell-out and parted ways. Though Ramsay’s name still hangs on the door, today the position of head chef goes to mathematician-turned-cook Orson Vergnaud, while Steve Mason serves as general manager.
Located in the heart of Belgravia, Pétrus promises a relaxed and friendly atmosphere punctuated with unforgettably good food. Having first received a Michelin star at its current location in 2011 (originally awarded one, then two at its previous spot), Pétrus has deservedly held onto the award ever since. Offering up classic French cuisine with a contemporary twist, labels seem irrelevant with food this universally mouth-watering. Upstairs, the gold-lit glow of the biophilic columns and the regal stance of the glass wine cellar set the mood. While down below, the Chef’s Table offers a front-row seat to the workings of this calm yet efficient kitchen.
From smoked eel and Isle of Skye scallops to confit brill and a 100-day aged blue grey, each mouthful will leave your tongue mesmerised, wondering what strange mastery has made these ingredients you thought you knew taste so much better than you thought they could. And though the team will present each dish to you at the Chef’s Table with a thorough explanation, nothing will quite capture the magic behind each bite. With each dish perfectly paired by sommelier Milena De Waele, the wine flight ascends this heady experience into divine realms.
