Restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramsay
One of London’s most intimate dining experiences, at just 26 covers, there is no fear of being forgotten by the staff at this Michelin star restaurant. Warmly attentive and on-hand to meet your every need, the team do great credit to the Savoy’s chefs both past and present. The name derives from chef Auguste Escoffier, who worked at the hotel back in 1890, while executive chef James Sharp heads up 1890 today.
Inside, it’s an Art Deco daydream: think geometric lines, elegant wall scones and gold, gold everywhere. As for the food, prepare yourself. The dishes combine French technique with seasonal produce for a whirlwind of flavour. The black truffle bomb is a bomb indeed – a creamy explosion that sets the tone for the evening. From there, the tastes and textures continue to delight. Wild garlic and ampersand butters shake-up the traditional bread course, while the native lobster wows with each bite. For any chicken skin fans out there, the cornish red chicken is a real treat – decked out with moreish morels, asparagus, and the crispiest most crackling bits of chicken skin you’ve ever tried.
A journey made all the more enjoyable with the exceptional wine flight – including a bottle matured beneath the sea – you’ll have just enough room left to enjoy dessert. Open for both lunch and dinner, their newest tasting experience lets you enjoy the menu for just £100pp, with the chance to jazz up your meal with Cornish brown crab for just £30 more.
