Sandra M Sawatzky
You may have learnt about the medieval Bayeux Tapestry at school, which charts William of Normandy’s conquest of England in 1066. Well, artist Sandra M Sawatzky has reinvented the concept for the 21st Century to illustrate the history of oil in a 220-foot-long tapestry, called The Black Gold Tapestry. We usually think the history starts in the US during the 1800s, but this work shows a wider story, detailing this ‘black gold’ being used by communities for thousands of years.
