Carlotta: Big Mamma Group Is Opening a New Restaurant in Marylebone

It's set to be the group's most relaxed trattoria yet

Jacuzzi only recently opened its doors, but there’s no rest for the wicked at Big Mamma Group, which has announced the launch of yet another restaurant. Launching in Marylebone on 12 May is Carlotta, the fifth London restaurant from the group, who also owns Instagram-famous hotspots Gloria, Circolo Poplare and Ave Mario.

Big Mamma Group is known for its maximalist interiors and OTT menus. Jacuzzi, which launched at the beginning of 2023 in Kensington, is perhaps the most lavish yet, spread across four storeys with glitter ball toilets and its own boudoir space decked out with Italian murals. But Carlotta is set to be a more intimate affair, located on pretty Marylebone High Street.

Things haven’t been dialled down too much though. Diners can expect a Venetian marble bar, a ruby red terrace, a long skylit dining room complete with golden drapes, and an 80s-style ‘midnight blue velvet paradise’ dining area downstairs.

On the food side, a new menu will focus on traditional Neapolitan and Sicilian fare with an American twist. Hailing from the eastern part of Napoli, chef Armando di Costanzo is primed to head up the kitchen, which will focus on grills – a first for the group – including beef and lamb from Philip Warren.

These will sit aside Italian classics like rosé veal tartare, penne alla vodka, and arrosticini lamb skewers. And on the dessert front, Carlotta will add to Big Mamma’s canon of extravagant puddings with an enormous ten-tiered chocolate fudge cake, following in the footsteps of Gloria’s lemon pie and Ave Mario’s gelato tower.

Founded by Tigrane Seydoux and Victor Lugger, Big Mamma Group was born in Paris, with East Mamma opening back in 2013. Over the years the group has expanded around Europe, with a collection of restaurants dotted around Paris, Madrid and London.

It’s not all about fun and cheese wheels, though. The group is also committed to green practices: it’s a certified B Corp, and has succeeded in getting below the two percent mark for food waste. Since 2019, the company has also donated more than one million euros and pounds for charity – specifically the Gustave Roussy Foundation, the Maison des Femmes and Epic Foundation in the UK.
