From Barbiecore to Wonkacore, it’s difficult to keep track of the weird and wonderful world of TikTok aesthetics – but which ones really stood out in 2023? Here are all of this year’s biggest TikTok style trends.

1. Barbiecore

It’s almost impossible to remember what life was like before Greta Gerwig’s Barbie took over the world. From hot pink nails to Gingham dresses and glittery boots (not to mention Barbie bags, Barbie watches and Barbie Crocs), Mattel’s iconic character was everywhere, and Margot Robbie became a definitive style icon. While the frenzy might have died down since the summer, it seems the allure of these playful pink outfits lives on.

If you’re not partial to hot pink, balletcore might feel like a welcome alternative; simply swap a vibrant dress for a dainty wrap cardigan, leg warmers and (of course) a pair of ballet flats and you’ve got yourself an ultra-chic outfit. Balletcore had quite the moment at Copenhagen Fashion Week, but it’s been an enduring trend all year.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story had us desperate to pull on a pair of opera gloves, don an empire line gown and live in a pastel-hued, Regency-inspired dreamland. We’ll be lusting after this particular look while we wait for the new season of Bridgerton to drop next year.
4. Coastal Cowgirl
This year’s country music renaissance went hand in hand with the rise of cowboycore – think fringed jackets, plenty of tassels and a jazzy pair of cowboy boots. This particular trend was all the rage at Coachella, where countless celebrities completed their outfits with the aforementioned boots and even cowboy hats.
5. Quiet Luxury

Succession was the driving force behind quiet luxury or ‘stealth wealth’, an aesthetic rooted in the appeal of luxe, high-quality clothing. Proponents of quiet luxury include Sofia Richie, Sienna Miller and Zendaya – and although it made the rounds on TikTok, quiet luxury is fundamentally an anti-trend, reminding us to value timeless elegance over more short-lived fads (no matter how buzzy they may be).
