It’s a brand new month, and it’s time to fill your calendar up with things to do. From art fairs to special menus at top London restaurants, here are the best things to do in London in October 2024.

Frieze London

October is all about the beloved London art fair season. Head to Frieze London for all things contemporary art from some of the world’s best and brightest galleries and artists, as well as insightful talks, presentations and parties. Don’t miss the ‘Conversations with Nature’ exhibition at the Ruinart Art Bar (10–13 October), best enjoyed with a glass of R de Ruinart, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs or Ruinart Rosé.

Nestled within Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane, the Michelin-starred French fine-dining restaurant Pavyllon London has launched a new ‘Petit Pavyllon’ cookery class series, set to inspire budding chefs. Welcoming the whole family, parents tuck into a delicious lunch while little ones master the art of French cookery before proudly presenting their creations at the Payllon counter, all the while donning a classic chef hat and apron to take home with them.

Details: Sessions available at midday and 1.30pm on 20 October, 17 November, 15 December and 19 January 2025. The class is tailored for children aged six to 12 years old and priced at £350, including a four-course set lunch menu for two adults and one children’s cooking class, plus a chef’s hat and apron. Affordable Art Fair is back in London for its Battersea autumn edition, bringing an esteemed lineup of galleries and artists to south London. Celebrating its landmark 25th anniversary, expect the fair to be bigger and better than ever, with more than 100 galleries and thousands of artworks to discover, all priced from £50 to £7,500.

Headlong’s UK tour of a refreshed staging of Lorraine Hansberry’s classic A Raisin in the Sun will be in London this month, bringing the Younger Family back to the stage, daring to ask how we can create a meaningful life in a world designed to keep you down. In 1959, A Raisin in the Sun was the first play by a Black woman to be staged on Broadway – making it the perfect play to watch this Black History Month.

Go Mental

World Mental Health Day takes place on 10 October, so let’s Go Mental in celebration. Go Mental is an annual event from nutritionist and author Miss Nutritionist (aka Rosie Millen), featuring a full day of inspirational talks, Q&A panels, interactive workshops and fitness and meditation classes, plus an introduction to all the best wellness brands and products to be using right now.

PAD London

If you’re up for another Fair, PAD London is a smaller yet equally inspiring event dedicated to 20th-century and contemporary design, and collectible jewellery. This year, more than 60 galleries will come to London for PAD from 16 countries across Europe, Asia and North America, and while PAD is designed to inspire collectors, art consultants, museum experts and interior designers, it’s also just a lovely place to browse if you don’t fall into any of these categories.

See Pure Expression’s 1984

Based on George Orwell’s novel with a modern twist, Pure Expression is returning to London this month following its three month sell-out run in 2023.
